Hi,

I'm looking to buy a treadmill. I've noticed that most of them seem
to be rated for 250lbs maximum. I weigh 377. Can I get away with a
machine that is rated for a lower weight, esp since I'm going to be
walking on it, not running?

Sarah

hi sarah - if i were you i think i'd spend the extra money and a real
professional quality treadmill. the 250# ones aren't going to hold up very
long and you'll probably just have to buy a replacement anyway. here a
couple sites you can ck out if you'd like:

good luck! i hope this helps...

One problem you need to check out before you buy is how the tread
'tracks'. That is, can you stop it by putting your weight on it and
holding it. Does it seem to slip or hang as you aggressively walk on it
- putting your feet way out in front.

The feeling is very much like being on a wet floor where all of a sudden
your foot feels like it is is slipping forward .. you can take nasty
falls. The tread momentarily stops or skids on its plate when your
extra weight is placed on it.

This happens especially with heavy people. The machine is meant to run
with little friction on its plate with 'average' weighed people. You
are not near average -- yet.
