My goal was meant to be achieved by the end of 2006. I achieved it at
Easter. Tonight I did a set of 5 reps @ 115kg and then did a set of two
@ 125kg with my now bodyweight of 81kg. Time to set some new goal!
Sorry for the rant but I am just pumped, for now anyhow.

Dead lifts are one exercise where you should proceed slowly. Better to
err on the side of caution lest you blow out a disk.

I am also 54 years old. I weigh a bit more than you at 210 pounds. My
best DL is 435. I plan to get to 500 pounds in about a year or so. I
just hope my squat can catch up to my DL.

Congratulations!

Are you lifting with a standard olympic bar, or a trap bar. I've heard
a lot of good things about
trap bars and wondered if you were using one.

Congratulations, Bob! Nothing quite like a deadlift PR. Try a
1-rep-maximum at the end of your next cycle and you'll certainly get
even more (both because it's only 1 rep and because you'll hopefully be
even stronger). A great thing to do, if you haven't tried it already,
is enter a powerlifting meet. Most will allow you to enter as
deadlift-only if you wish - that's what I usually do.
