do you think squatting heavy (without a "cushion" of course) could
help to build your traps just from supporting the weight alone?

Squats are pretty much one of those 'total body' exercises, so yes, you
will get some development in the traps from squats. You'd get far more
from deadlifts, though. BTW - If you want a stable and safe bar you
shouldn't be using a cushion anyway. Anyways, why do you ask?

Define help. Heck, define build. I mean relative to trap development
from a heavy weight resting on your back. Do your quads grow as a
result of seated calf raises? I mean the pad is resting on your knees
and those teardrop hopefuls, isn't it? I'd call that a rough
equivalent.

And, hey, as compared to cleans, deads, or shrugs, no.

Define some.

(Did I hear you say "Define as$h0le!"? Ari, let's keep things civil,
okay? Wink)

Agreed.

He said *without* a "cushion," Ari. Plus I've never seen anyone use a
frigging beanbag chair to increase their squatting comfort. You're
calling a squat cushion some kind of severe stability impairer and
safety hazard?

BECAUSE MAYBE HE WANTED AN ANSWER OF SOME KIND? Duh.

Why did you ask "why do you ask?" Rhetorical.

More importantly (and not at all rhetorical), how's the weekend
shaping up, Ari?

Not very much if any. the traps are getting some isometric training effect
but not much.
