Are there any other videos of good squat and dl form other than on exrx? As
I am adding weight, I am becoming increasingly concerned about proper form.
So far, I haven't been able to find anyone locally to help me with form,
especially NOT the so-called personal trainers at my gym.
With my squat, I have only been going just to parrallel, but I am making
sure that I do get down to parallel - no power curtsy here! When I was
going deeper, I kept feeling an odd pain in my low back, and I wonder if
something is going wrong with my form at that depth. It was all fine and
good when I was using my starting weights, not that big of a risk. But as
the weights go up, so does the risk for injury.
I wanted to slap the guy at my gym the other day. I sat down with him to go
over my goals and he suggested that I would compress my spine with the squat
and dl so I shouldn't go heavy. Then he proceeded to tell me how to "tone"
my muscles... WTF??? Then he was supposed to do a bf comp, and he pulled
out the bioimpedence thingy. I wanted a caliper test, so he reluctantly
agreed. He did a 3 site, but he was either really nervous about touching me
or had never done it before, because he was fumbling all over the place.
The results came in at 18% and I knew that was WAY low. So I asked for the
manager, who came in and did a 7 site test which put me at 29%.
Unfortunately, that's more like it.
At any rate, I am really enjoying my weights these days, and just wish I
could find someone competant to show me powerlifting. I'm hoping I can
glean enough info here to not hurt myself...

Lucky for you, a back squat video courtesy of Mark Rippetoe was posted
on crossfit.com just yesterday. Here's the link to the video: <URL:
http://www.crossfit.com/cf-video/backsquat.mpg>. Mark Rippetoe is one
of the authors of _Starting Strength_, which gives a very in-depth
description and analyzation of the squat at 50 pages. This book has
been receiving high praise, and for good reason. It will teach you
everything you need to know about the lifts it teaches.
Also, I discovered from a list of clubs on the USAW site that there is
an Olympic Weightlifting facility near me which teaches the
lifts. Hopefully you'll be as lucky. Here's the link: <URL:
http://www.msbn.tv/usavision/displayPage.aspx?id=730>. >> Stay informed about: squat and dl form |

For some reason, when I download this clip, it only shows her backing out of
the rack and then the clip stops... Is it a complete video that actually
shows her descent? >> Stay informed about: squat and dl form |

Not that I use Windows, or anything, but a friend of mine had similar
problems with this clip using the Quicktime plugin in his browser.
Downloading the clip and using Windows Media Player or the Real Player
worked fine.
In case you are interested, totem played the clip fine on my Linux
box.

My *friend* that uses Windows gets all sorts of requests from people
to help them with their computers. Hardly anyone wants Linux help,
and when they do, I don't seem to mind pitching in.
Besides, even my friend that uses Windows does so infrequently. As
far as he is concerned Windows is nothing more than a fairly useful
program for running SSH to connect to the *real* computers.

I've recently finished working on a fitness portal,
http://www.webfitnetwork.com
The site has short form videos segmenting by age and by sport. It is
still in it's infancy but should have a few videos to help. In
addition, the site has a number of articles and growing discussion
boards where trainers and coaches answer questions as well. You can
also save your favorite content in a virtual My Locker and join and
create groups in The Locker Rooms.
Hope this helps.
