Hi, I have a pair of 13-15" spinlock dumbells...it only came with 20lb
each (2 x 7.5lb & 2 x 2.5). These plates are pretty thick and it
doesn't look like there is much room for an increase. I was wondering
if york cast iron plates could fit more? They look thinner. I'm looking
to put at least 50-60 lbs on each for dumbell presses.

Can anyone confirm that this can be done? perhaps 6 x 10lbs on each?

Take the dumbbells to a place that carries standard weights and
see how much you can put on. A fitness shop or sporting goods
store.

I guess that is one way to do it.

Take it from a guy who builds things and have to make sure the fit into a
specific space. We use tape measures. This is a handy device that rolls
out a tape that has inches (or metric) on it. Just measure the thickness of
the weights. (I use a set of calipers for this, but a tape measure will do)
Measure how much space you have on the dumbell ends with the collar on it.
Divide one number by the other. This will give you the number of plates you
canfit on the handle.

It is called math. Most of us took it in school. It ain't that hard. If you
can't do it, you no doubt know someone who can.

Don't "take them", have them ride the short bus there, like they did
in school.

Spinlock DB's are crummy. Get something like this:

http://www.newyorkbarbells.tv/pro6300m.html

or better yet:
http://www.ivanko.com/products/prd_text/RMC_EPC.html

the latter I bought used locally on ebay for less than what those York
plates will run you at a fitness outlet
