Wondering if I have a bruised sternum, torn pec, or DOMS. I did a chest
workout last night and this morning I had to refill my water cooler. I
slipped while lifting the 5 gallon water bottle and felt pain in my left pec
really close to the sternum. It took my breath away. I can make a full range
of movement almost, but there are a couple positions when I move my pec
muscle that cause a deep pain, not unlike that of having a disk out in your
back (you know how that pain takes your breath away).

What's the general rule of thumb? Not to workout until the pain goes away?
Get an x-ray? Just don't worry about it? I'm popping motrin and drinking a
little extra protein.
I'm supposed to do my arm workout this evening.. should I skip it?

I mentioned bruised sternum because I have a preacher bench that I haven't
been able to adjust (the nut is stripped), so I've been putting a little too
much pressure on the sternum. I wonder. My sternum always makes a cracking
sound. Would you get an xray or just not worry about it?

Generally, I hold off unless there's some serious and long-lasting
pain. Bruised muscle or simply DOMS may explain it. If it was a torn
pec then I assume you'd see significant bruising. Otherwise, have
another Advil or Motrin and do your curls.

Two cents.

Thanks. I guess something is bruised inside but I don't see a bruise. So I
guess its not a torn pec. I was able to do biceps and triceps this evening
but I tried a weighted dip and that's when the pain came back. So I'll have
to take off tomorrow Sad
