I wonder if anyone has had something like this. The doctor is
baffled:
I woke up one morning and when I moved my hand I got a severe, sharp
pain in my wrist. It was in the upper wrist on the outer side.
Moving my thumb upward made it much worse, but twisting or any upward
movement of the hand also caused pain - very bad pain. No pain at
rest.
The orthopedist took x-rays and an MRI. All negative. He figured it
was tendonitis and had me use a brace full time for a month. At the
end of the month it was improving.
I am going to PT and it has improved a bit more but not much. The
pain still occurs when I twist the wrong way or over use the hand, but
not as severely. I can use the hand most of the time but have to wear
a wrist wrap.
The mystery is, every morning when I wake up the pain is back and
almost as bad as it was the first time. After icing it, it feels
better. As the day goes on it feels a bit better, provided I don't
aggravate it by doing something stupid. I tried sleeping with the
brace, without it, with the wrap. Pain is still the same in the
morning. When I sleep my hand and arm are not twisted or under
anything.
Now they don't think it's tendonitis but have no idea what it might
be. Apparently the fact that moving the thumb upward causes pain on
that side is unusual.

Hello,
It is always better to have a thorough medical check up. If you don't
mind please follow this suggestion. Do some Yoga and continue it for
six months at least. You will definitely find better results. Get well
soon.

Has anyone bothered to give you or recommend anti-inflammatory
medications? I have some wrist pain, mostly to the outside of the wrist
below my pinkies.
It most often follows intense posting sessions. Too much typing.
Is there anything you are doing with your hands that might be straining
the tendons on that side?
Ibuprofen is one of my favorite drugs.

I am having deadness in my left hand, little finger to my wrist. I have had
it for 5 weeks and it is slowly getting better. Funny to have your little
finger a sleep most of the time.
I "think" what started it was doing curls using "plate dumbbells". I was
always having to change my hand position to stop hurt in my wrist and then
this started.
I can move and use it OK, it's just a sleep like your legs does at times.
Does anyone have something to say about this, what might help it get well?
I like Omelet live with Ibuprofen.

Are you doing reverse wrist curls so that you are hitting both the top
and bottom of the forearm? Balance is very important. What you are
describing sounds a lot like carpal tunnel syndrome.
I read about an exercise sometime back for carpal tunnel relief, and I
use it once in awhile if the wrist pain gets too bad. It really does
seem to help.
Get one of those large, thick produce rubber bands. Place it around your
fingers, then spread your fingers out against the band tension. You
will really feel the pull in the upper forearm and a bit on the sides.
Make sure your hand position is pronated.
Do the same reps you would for wrist curls.

I'll try it.
I had to look up "Pronated", I ain't to smart!!!
I have Hexheaded dumbbells at home but the gym here uses the plate ones and
they shake and move (not tight).

Sorry! I did not know how else to describe it, and it was important.
The reverse of that is Supinated, just to add to your vocabulary.

Hm. See if you can get them to fix that. I have Hex dumbells at home
too, but the plate dumbells at my gym are well maintained.

Have you checked into a pinched nerve, e.g. from a disc displacement?

I used to, but I had to throw her out -- she was always late with the rent.
I do like omelettes, however. >> Stay informed about: mysterious wrist pain |
