Today's Tuesday, right?
My worst soreness is typically two days after the workout, so you're
right on schedule as far as I'm concerned.
Typically, I feel fine the day of the workout. The next day, I can
tell I worked out. The following day, though, every movement is
painful, especially if I've been sitting still for a little while.

the 9 miles was round in a big circle - the 6 was in a
straight line and you forgot you had to get back.

The line between training hard and overtraining can be a fine one. If
you think you've overdone it, go with how your body feels, back off for
a few days, and start a new cycle after that.

Don't some people say that if you are training well you shoul always
have some DOMS.?
I tend to be like this and often move around like an old man ( and I am
old) but usually press on regardless unless I need some pain killers.
Otherwise there might be quite large gaps between my training session.
Am I wrong. The amount of weights that I can lift are slowly creeping
upwards which is suppposed to be the idea - I think. >> Stay informed about: Too much muscle soreness? |

Yes, they do, but that doesn't make them right.

If you're happy, I'm happy, but most people today suggest that soreness
is neither good nor bad. DOMS seems to have little relation to
progress.

I'm confused - even more so now.
So do I take it easy until the DOMS fade somewhat and then carry on? Or
do I just ignore them altogether?
I'm in no rush to get any target - I've been plodding along for some
three years doing mild weight lifting - basically because I felt like
it. though I started to improve my balance - and it has.
One thing is for sure whenever I try something slightly new in weight
lifting - the next day or so I have some stiffness and soreness getting
up after sitting for a while. This I would like to avoid. >> Stay informed about: Too much muscle soreness? |

I'm sorry to disappoint you but there is no formula for this sort of
thing. For some people, some soreness is normal and expected, but for
other people, or other kinds of soreness, it can be the indicator of a
problem. You have to decide what of the many approaches works best for
you, and most importantly you have to learn to listen to your body
enough to know when discomfort of a certain kind means you should stop
and when it means you can and should push through.

Then don't do anything new. The first time I did one-legged deadlifts,
I had trouble coming down stairs for more than a week. That didn't stop
me from practicing the movement and incorporating it into my routine
during some cycles.

I always train regardless of DOMS and can't see that it makes any
difference. After the first few lifts, I don't even notice it any more. In
fact, if things do still hurt after the first few lifts, it's probably a
signal to back off. And I hardly ever get DOMS because of this--just when
(like you) I've started something new.
YMMV as always.
