The thing missing here were the TYPE of calories consumed.

For those of us that have experimented personally with this, we
understand that significance.

The last sentence of the article says it all. "If you are fat, you just eat
too much." How perfect is that? I get so tired of hearing fat asses claiming
that they have a "slow" metabolism etc. "If you are fat, you just eat too
much." Someone needs to put that phrase on T shirts and market them. Smile

Arent they overlooking an important point here? I think they do.

Lets look at 2 hypothetical individuals. Both weigh 200 pounds. Both have
the exact same amount of bone-mass, muscle-mass and fat.

Individual A has an endo/meso bone structure, with short arms/legs and a big
torso. Head is square/round

Height is 5 feet 8. BMI is 30.5

Individual B has an ecto bone structure, with very long, thin, arms and
legs. Head is long and narrow.

Height is 6 feet 4. BMI is 24.5

Individual A is much more compact;

It has a low mass to surface ratio. And despite that muscle mass is high and
fat is low, the fact that the body is compact will result in an efficient
way to burn calories;

Most calories are used to keep the body at 37 degrees celcius.

Individual B, who has the same amount of muscle mass and fat, has a much
higher mass to surface ratio;

It will lose body heat very rapidly. A lot of calories are needed just to
stay at 37 degrees celcius.

I think this fact is overlooked.

If you are thin, with a typical ecto build, its easy to stay thin. You need
a lot of calories to maintain anyway, no exercise to burn them is needed.

If you are more compact, you really dont need THAT much calories, despite
having lots of LBM. The body is much more efficient with calories due to the
low mass to surface ratio.

Diet and thermogenics rule.

Exercise is a stupid way to lose weight.

Pete,
Your premise is off the mark. The person with more lean body mass will burn
more calories. It has nothing to do with body temp regulation.

Good stuff.
I have literally just finished watching "Paul McKenna will make you
thin" of TV. Basically the same thing was explained. People that are
very "skinny" do a significantly higher amount of day-to-day exercise
than fatties.

A skinny person and a fat person were given exactly the same amount of
food in an over-feeding exercise and they both gained the same amount of
weight, likewise when they were underfed by the same amount they lost
weight at the same rate. (exercise being equal)

Yeah, metabolic disorders/chronic problems are not nice for those that
/really/ have them.

Maybe waterboarding will become the newest diet craze!

Lyle could write a book on it.

There's an excellent example of its application! Do you think there are
any obese long-term guests at Hotel Guantanamo? Those guys are
certainly going to thank us when they go home all slim and trim.
