I haven't been training the deadlift very long. In fact, I remember
the first time I deadlifted a couple of months ago. I used 135 lbs for
a few sets and my lower back was kind of sore the next day -- a good
sore, but sore. In the next 6 months or so, I've deadlifted off and
on, and tonight I deadlifted 275. It seems like it's probably close to
my max, as close as I'm willing to try right now anyway. I could
probably get 290, but it would definitely be tough. Anyway, the whole
point of this is that I'm wondering if my gains have had anything to do
with my height. To me, it's kind of obvious that shorter people, all
else equal, would have an easier time deadlifting, right? I'm just
under 5'7" and I weigh about 130 lbs. I'm very lean, very narrow hips,
very small frame, etc. Deadlifting has always seemed MUCH easier than
squatting (at least squatting correctly to parallel for equal
poundage). Really, I only squat with about 225 at most, for 2 or 3
reps, one or two sets, and I struggle to get to parallel a lot of
times. So, I always enjoy when deadlift time comes. >> Stay informed about: Is my height the reason for my gains on deadlift? |

I'm guessing the fact that you are "very lean, very narrow hips,
very small frame, etc." has more to do with it than height. That should
give you good leverages in the deadlift and poor leverages in the squat,
relatively speaking. >> Stay informed about: Is my height the reason for my gains on deadlift? |
