Same for me, as I said. People think that somehow weight lifting
necessarily makes you into Hulk Hogan. I'm exactly the same bodyweight
I was (that part is easy - I get on the scale every morning and adjust
what I eat accordingly) when I did lots of cardio and sets of 12-15 reps
on machines but I've lost several pounds of bodyfat, 'replaced' it with
muscle, and enjoy not having to attach myself to a steady drip of
carbohydrates.Smile I cannot say it works this way for everyone but I
noticed a real change in how my body responded to both food and
exercises as I went through my early 40's, and lifting works much better
for me now (I'm 51).

I would have to see that to believe that. 30 over handed pullups all
the way down and back with the bar below your chin. Cmon.

It is relevant, because you keep using it as the main excuse to not eat
right.

I suspect that he simply doesn't want to control how much he eats, and
if he says what he does for a living, he plays his "hole card," and he
risks someone here saying, "Hey, I've done that, and you can still do
it on a diet."

All this leads me to wonder what type of solution he was envisioning
that would allow him to burn a load of fat in a month or so, but would
have less of an effect on his job performance than dieting. Does he
think that there is some drug that would do it but wouldn't affect his
work? Does he think there was some extreme exercise regimen that
would burn huge amounts of fat but somehow would not reduce his job
performance? Neither of those seems very plausible.

I also wonder if we're being played.

That's fine.

It is funny because I was talking with one guy and just coincidentally
he mentioned how he has noticed how over the past 10 years the signal
to noise ratio has become so unacceptable on newsgroups that he has
simply stopped using them.

I'm quite happy to let this situation lie and follow-up on the
suggestions I've received from:
David Cohen (Checked the site http://rapidfatloss.lylemcdonald.com/ -
haven't decided whether I will purchase the book)
Brahma (cutting calories is definitely what I'm doing just not quite to
1000 - though definitely at least cut by a quarter to a third
currently)
Curt James (I'm going to try to keep up cardio each day except for
Sunday)
DZ (great article)
joanne (took the tape measurement)

JMW, Stephen N., geek_girl, Steve Freides, and ephedralover DeleteThis @hotmail.com
none of you know my diet (with regards to any comments about stop
eating so much). Also, I don't understand why you all needed a precise
description and/or name for my job - I do have a strenuous job (if you
like I could tell you that I'm a fisherman - does that make it easier
to help me - go ahead and argue that it does - it is a moot point now)
and it is a legitimate excuse (as defined by me) for me not to severely
limit my carbs. This message will surely only bring more hostility and
suspicion to bear on me which is fine. I just think that you should do
a new poster the courtesy of trying to help them without assuming and
insulting them. I got more respect and useful information from David
Cohen and Brahma.

Incidentally, though your approaches are vastly different - David and
Curt you two definitely have some solid ideas.

Lastly, in case anyone happens to find themselves in Vancouver (Canada
for the Americans) I'll be happy to show you each of my "feats of
strength" at any of the local gyms. Name a time and place this coming
weekend. I'm planning on being at the North Shore Fitness World on
Saturday.

What's that thing... LOATHE TO AGREE WITH yadayadaya?

make it somewhat of a curiosity. Meh.

Yup - I'll be here (though during the week I would have trouble getting
out of the core downtown area - weekend is easier). Not that it
matters now because my post has transformed from being me just trying
to get some advice to people being hostile about how many calories I
can survive on (regardless of my job, health, dietary issues, etc), me
being a liar about my current fitness level, etc. I guess you get what
you pay for.
Wink

It is funny, what started as an innocent post (I can't prove that so I
won't bother trying) to get information has changed into me proving how
fit I am - weird.

Anyway, you and I can work out the contact info for each other and we
can work from there - I made up the email address I'm using, so don't
bother trying to send to that. What email address should I use for
you?

I haven't followed the whole thread, so I don't really know how it got
where it went.

If I get there I'd be in the downtown core anyhow. Right now it is about
50/50.
