I forget, are you doing these with pullup or chinup grip?

Yes, I agree, your numbers are great on this and I would love to catch
you, but I can't seem to get myself excited about training for this one.
I think getting myself a good pullup bar at home might help - the one at
the bottom of my basement stairs is OK but it's not wide enough for
serious pullup work, although it does work fine for the underhanded
grip. And the one on the power rack angles down at the ends and I don't
like that, and so does the one at the Y. I need to hang one on the
basement wall or from the rafters. Perhaps this will be my summertime
project ...

If you'll forgive a concrete suggestion Smile how about posting your
training schedule for a typical week? I have found it easiest to stay
lean when I'm lifting heavy - nothing more than 5 reps per set, and most
of the time just singles, doubles, and triples. This is not the kind of
program that will see you add muscle, but if you keep the volume up, it
should allow you to increase your workload overall, which can translate
into more calories burned, while keeping the muscle you already have.

Well for one I have absolutely no incentive to lie on here. In fact I
would only be doing myself a disservice.

Also, as I mentioned those metal contacts aren't exactly considered
reliable.

Lastly, my friend took me to his gym, so maybe they intentionally hiked
it up so people would have a bigger incentive to join (I didn't by the
way).

I weigh 200 pounds and I'm 6 foot. I can do all the things I've said
and as far as one armed chin ups go I can do multiple reps if I use my
second arm to grab the one hanging from the bar.

umm.. I guess I should say something like so there and stick out my
tongue?

so there!

Well as I just mentioned in another post - it seems this newsgroup has
some people that like to brag (even exaggerate or lie) about their
lifting abilities. I'm not bragging, I was just trying to give an
accurate depiction of where I'm at.

I could post a pic and give a URL, but then people would say I'm not
the guy in the pic, so it is a little pointless. To be honest, people
calling me names (fatty and stuff) considering the facts I've presented
is fine - they have higher expectations for their low body fat levels.
The only thing that bothered me in all of this is when someone implied
that I was lying. It is patently ridiculous - I'm looking for help,
not to try to get some chick's attention.

Novice

PS If that sounded hostile it wasn't directed at you or anyone else -
it was just me hoping for more advice rather than the other stuff

Hmm.. that is a solid suggestion:

As I mentioned I've been neglecting legs because I don't like doing
them (they make me feel sick and most girls I know don't seem to care
one way or the other - not to say women are my only reason for lifting
Wink

Anyway, my schedule these days is:
--Back--
3 real (non warm up) sets of any back exercises for 10-12 reps. I like
bent over dumbbell rows and seated cables (but my current gym doesn't
have enough weight for me on this, so it is useless - even if I add a
45 lb plate to the stack also it is a double pulley system which feels
weird to begin with). I invariably do bent over barbell rows in
there... but I prefer those machines with hinges and where the bar is
on the hinge and then the bar has a grip bar attached perpendicular to
it (but again my current gym doesn't have that baby).
I also do some lower back and trap sets in here - I sometimes toy with
the idea of putting traps on shoulders - but I've got enough to do on
that day.

--Chest and Biceps--
3 real (non warm up) sets of any chest exercises for 6-10 reps (usually
this is just 3 flat, 3 incline, 3 decline). I tend to avoid dumbbells
because I don't like the feeling and I always worry about shoulder
injuries (flyes or otherwise) when I do them...
3 real (non warm up) sets of any bicep exercises for 8-12 reps

--USED TO DO LEGS IN HERE--
But now I do cardio here to break up shoulders from biceps

--Shoulders and triceps--
3 real (non warm up) sets of any shoulder exercises for 6-10 reps. By
the way, here is another one that people will probably take issue with
- I can also do standing military barbell press with 185 pounds for 5
reps. And that is without throwing the weight up at the bottom.
3 real (non warm up) sets of any tricep exercises for 8-12 reps

Let me know,

I should add that I worry about my joints and lower reps scare me that
way... though I have done them sometimes when I'm with some super hyper
intense workout partner.

You're keeping a journal? What other names have I posted under? I mean
as long as you're paying attention (and *not* ignoring, right?).

If I don't recognize the name immediately then it's a fair bet that
it's TBR. Most I skip over, but some I reply to. Does this make him a
troll? No. It makes him a guy who posts a lot (okay A LOT) and who I
sometimes ignore. Simple.

What's more annoying than The Broken Record is Jay Emm and his
seemingly incessant references to TBR and trolls in general. Oh, yeah,
and his killfile tutorials which he apparently doesn't follow.

In many ways, unfortunately, you're no better.

>He's fairly easy to recognize, and easy to ignore.

Yeah, TBR's easy to ignore. That's what you call your post? I love how
you ignore things. My impression of David Cohen ignoring someone:

"HEY, YOU'RE SO EASY TO IGNORE! LA LA LA LA LA I'M IGNORING YOU
BECAUSE YOU'RE SO EASY TO IGNORE!!! IT'S LIKE YOU'RE NOT THERE!"

And allow me commend you on your level temperment and ability to take
comments without taking bait. Again, best of luck with your cutting
efforts.

At 6' and 200 lbs., with a 275 bench, I find it difficult to believe
that you're a blob. Pick up any of the fitness or bodybuilding mags on
the newsstand and there should be an article - especially at this time
of year - on getting your body ready for the beach (or camp).

I just use Novice as my online name... I like it because newsgroups
sometimes get into egos and stuff. Like people will frequently go on
here just to unload some hostility. By using Novice at least it gives
them less reason to attack me. It seems to work well enough.

re: one armed chins/pulls
Then, no, I don't think I could do a 1 arm pull up. I seem to recall
one summer that I did one, but that was when I was about 180 lbs... and
it was a while ago, so maybe I didn't actually get the chin above the
bar... I haven't tried one in a long time without using the second hand
to grip my hanging arm (i.e. one handed chin/pull) - I bet my slender
buds would get a kick out of it if I could do it though... that said,
my one buddy (who is super competitive with me) wouldn't probably
acknowledge it even if I did it in front of him... he'd complain about
something... like this one time I got farther up a 5.10a climb than he
could... he complained that I used a hold "incorrectly"... it was so
lame... but we've been like this since kids so I actually get a kick
out of it in a weird way..

Actually Johnny, my personal "feats", while being quite creditable for
someone of my advancing years, are but a shadow of their former glory,
and pale into insignificance when compared to some of the super-fit
Armed Forces personnel with whom I had the privilege of serving.

Your own much publicised efforts are very unexceptional, lacking in
any proper form, and aimed only at attempting to demonstrate to those
you are trying to impress, what a tough, strong bastard you are - an
enterprise in which you fail abysmally.

My only criticism about pull-ups, which were in fact chins, were Ms
Volk's much vaunted efforts, when according to you she was
'demonstrating' to the US Marines on how to do 12 pull-ups. You told
me that she could do more reps than I could and invited me to provide
graphic proof to the contrary.

I of course demurred, not wanting to play your silly games, and called
you a cunt!! ;o)

I just thought you ought to know that!
