Increase the weight you lift, not your body weight.

You don't have to decrease *weight*, you have to shift body
composition. Which you can do by increasing your level of physical
activity.

If you start by being under-muscled and over-fat, there's only one
direction to go in, on both counts. A shift in body composition is
far from extraordinary -- it is the normal outcome for those
commencing an exercise program.
Observations about it being difficult to simoultaneously gain lean
mass and lose fat at the same time only apply to people who are
already fit. Not you.

Childish as very few 3 years old can be and so old that
your free radicals have already destroyed 3/4 of your brain and cognitive
faculties.

J.,
So you are worried about being a fat skinny guy. I would recommend
lifting weights and doing aerobic activities such as running, biking,
etc. As far as diet goes I would recommend eating a healthy diet.
5'9" 121 lbs is by no means fat and you should not be losing weight
(you should gain some lean weight). I also have a bit of a beer gut at
5'11" 175lbs while otherwise being lean (I sink to the bottom of the
swimming pool if I don't tread water). In my experience running does a
good job at eventually making my body leaner, I just need to run more
lately. Running and ab work will also strengthen your abs and
therefore make your stomach appear tighter. When I am trying to gain
muscle I eat a lot and don't worry about the resulting belly that
results, I think of it as a gas tank so that my body doesn't catabolize
muscle. When I am happy with the added muscle mass, I generally cut
the gut by running more.
Just exercise and don't lose any sleep over your belly. If you are in
shape otherwise (strong chest, arms, back, legs) your stomach will not
be very noticeable. In my experience women don't care too much if a
guy has a bit of a belly. They might kid about it a little bit but if
you don't worry about it too much no one else will. Don't even think
about liposuction or any other weird procedures, pills, etc.
Good luck,
James >> Stay informed about: Visceral Fat |

Just because you count legally it doesn't mean that you're useful to
the humanity or to yourself, worse yet: it doesn't mean you're not
dangerous to the humanity.

Just a fact I know you won't agree with, but you're wrong (and
cognitively insane) as usual

Does walking work too as a fat-burning aerobic activity?
But why my body should use fat as fuel if I'm providing it all the fuel
it needs by eating a lot? Isn't undereating or a deficit of calories
necessary to burn fat? I think I don't understand the rationale behind
the fat-burning mechanism.
Thanks for your reply

I've been suggested to lift weight and gain muscles so as to shift my
body composition.
How can I shift my body composition without burning fat?
If I gain muscles then I have to consume an excess of calories, so my
abdominal fat won't be burned.
So supposedly I have first to gain muscles and then to undereat to let
my body burn the fat. But doesn't undereating will result in muscle
mass loss too?
And while putting on muscles mass wouldn't I necessarily put on more
fat mass too? It sound to me like a vicious cycle: first I overeat and
lift weight so has to gain muscles but also fat too; when I have the
muscles I undereat and run/walk to burn the extra-fat I already had
plus the fat I've been putting on while gaining muscles, this will
result in muscle loss too; then I will overeat again to regain the
muscle and inevitably I will gain more fat too and so on and on and on
What's wrong about this interpretation?
Thanks for your reply

My accessment of you, which I put in my original reply, is that that
you don't have any weight problems whatsoever.
You are just a typical troble maker trying to waste other peoples' time

J.,
In my experience your body composition can change when you do more
aerobic activities and weight training regardless of the calorie issue.
I feel like that when your body is subjected to the need to run around
it naturally will change its composition to not have so much fat to
carry around. This has been my experience and I would guess its a
survival thing. The addition of muscle through weight training will
also speed up your metabolism to burn more fat and as we mentioned the
additional lean mass will make any fat present less noticeable, if you
have a big chest people won't notice the gut as much anyway.
Good luck and let me know if you have any questions on training
programs. I would recommend weight training the big muscle groups
primarily (chest, back, and legs) since you will get the most gain per
time starting out. If you still have time you could focus on the arms
(triceps and biceps) but these get worked on the big groups anyway.
