I've not noticed, probably because my current reader will render html or
plain text without trouble, but I seem to remember that you could set it up
to
post html'ized (have I just invented a word?) or plain text to newsgroups.

It's possible he's got it set up to render html and your reader doesn't cope
with it?

To be honest, I don't pretend to be some uber-geek about this stuff, I'm
sure with a bit of prompting people would queue up to show you how
much cleverer they are than me ;o)
