Well, I have not tried a recumbert exercise bike but I would expect
that you can get a good cardio work out on either the bike or a rower.
The rowing machine takes a little more practice because the form takes
little while to perfect. There is cordination that is needed to row
properly. The rower will use more muscles than the bike because it
also uses upper body.

I have worked with stair climbers, treadmills and stationary bikes and
I prefer the rowing machine, but that is just me. My chiropractor
wanted me to stay away from stair climbers because they twist the
spine.

But as someone else suggested I can always use dumb
bells while riding the recumb bike
