That was exactly my experience and the reason I started looking for
alternatives. This led me to mfw and then to changing gyms to one that said
they would buy a Powerrack. They did and my back is happy Wink

smith machine question - Hi all, I use a smith machine at my gym that I strongly believe is this one: http://us.commercial.lifefitness.com/content.cfm/smithmachine_1 What I want to know about it, if anyone knows offhand, is whether thwere is a weight associated with the bar....

Great Machines (Namely, Lats!) - Free weights are best, but machines are fun, too. What are your favorites? Right now, I'm looking to join a gym with Nautilus equipment. Specifically, with their Super Pullover machine, which isolates the lats like nothing else! All the lat exercise...

hydraulic fitness machines - Anybody try out hydraulic exercise equipment ? It is somewhat interesting in that the faster you try to do the lift the more resistance is given. This ensures really you can do your max intensity for the length and throughout the whole rep, _possibly_....

Seated Chest Press vs Smith Machine Bench Press - I'd appreciate any info re which muscles are more/less involved in each of these exercises. It seems like they should work the same muscles, but the two exercises feel very different--especially with heavy weights, and I can't figure out why. Thank..

subjective tests of various cardio machines - I posted this over in misc.fitness.aerobics, and meant to crosspost here but forgot. For those who might be considering buying a cardio machine, or trying to decide which ones to use at the gym, I thought I'd report my findings of some recent cardio..
