Thats the first i heard of that, can i ask why so?Or where you heard
that.
As far as id imgaine, machines would be safer than free weights as they
allow u to perform more repititions,at higher weight without the worry
of having a spotter near by.Also they are expensive but a lot are
designed to move just right with ur body.
Golds gym for example, once the hard core free weight gym of the
world, now looks like balls with machines all over. >> Stay informed about: free-weights vs Life-Fitness machines |

That shouldn't be overstated, though. The shearing forces on
connective tissues are minimized if the knee joint is not taken to
full extension. >> Stay informed about: free-weights vs Life-Fitness machines |

That's good to know. Of course, in most of the less expensive leg
extension machines the most weight is brought to bear at the top of
the lift and people that use the machines tend to use the momentum of
the weight to get the weight to the top. Heck, most swing the weight
up to the top and then try to stop it from crashing back down.
In short, it's precisely the sort of machine that is dangerous to
newbies. The lifter chooses the leg extension because it looks easier
and less dangerous than front squats (or <insert your favorite quad
dominant movement here>), and they crunch their knees because they
don't understand the force that are brought to bear.
Yes, there are uses for machines, but the advantage of machines is
generally *not* safety related.

I over the past years have accumlated a few hundred pounds of weights
at home and have myself a fairly deceny weight room,i also visit the
local rec.
Recently a friend brought me to Golds Gym as they just moved in around
my area..........well i remember golds from magazines and etc and as i
said in the first post i was pretty shocked to see it.........it
reminded me of ballys, machines everywhere,3 maybe 4 expensive looking
machines to work the same muscle group, even the free weights dident
quite look the same.
Dont get me wrong looked like a nice place, clean and sharp, but i
actualy prefer my gym a little grungy, with some steel banging around,so
i am now more apreciative of my local rec. >> Stay informed about: free-weights vs Life-Fitness machines |

No pictures, just that little flick called Blade Runner. (And thanks for
reminding me what book it was based on. I was trying to think of that
just the other day.) >> Stay informed about: free-weights vs Life-Fitness machines |

Cool- that guy was insane- you know he wrote the books Total
recall,Minority report and I Robot were based on-check him out in your
local library-his output is much more accessable(sic) than say Isaac
Assimov, etal also his stories are only usually a couple of hundred
pages long-legend has it his ideas preempted what is happening today .
Truth is stranger than fiction.
btw do you think a robot could be Schizophrenic? apart from bender >> Stay informed about: free-weights vs Life-Fitness machines |

Actually, "I, Robot" was based on Isaac Asimov's book of the same name.
