Hello. I'm on a mission to be one of the few who successfully lose a lot of
weight and KEEP it off. I've been eating well and exercising for 5 months,
and I've lost 45 lbs. I feel GREAT. Two months ago I began a basic full
body lifting routine, 3 days a week with free weights in my home. My weight
loss has about stopped, though I know I'm losing fat because my body
continues to change for the better.

So, the question is, how much weight (muscle) gain can a newbie expect and
for how long? I'm sure there are a lot of variables, but I'd love to hear
how this went for some of you folks. Thanks so much!

Heidi

Congratulations on the 45 lbs. lost, Heidi.

I'm glad you noted the variables factor. I doubt that anyone can
accurately predict what will happen to you, but how this went for me
was:

Newbie, age 15 and 150 lbs. I started with low bodyfat and have
maintained that courtesy of luck, fate, good genes and/or proper diet.
The most I've ever weighed has been 180 lbs. at age 25. That was as a
result of heavy lifting and force feeding. So, yeah, hello from the
ectomorph's world.

Muscle takes up less space than fat, so I'd recommend ditching the
scales and continuing to pay more attention to your tape measure and
mirror. Best of luck with your training!
