Allow me to explain: He was looking for a reason to criticize me. He
knows nothing about PSMFs. However, he read my comment about how much
weight I'd lost on my own PSMF, and he must have read my previous
cautionary note about protein bars and insulin resistance (due to them
usually having a high content of simple sugars), so he intuited "Aha!
He is surely on some diet where he eats no protein, and thus, I shall
thrash him soundly for such a faux pas! Tally ho!"

Of course, there are probably many others in this newsgroup who know
that a PSMF (protein-sparing modified fast) is actually a
*predominantly* protein diet, but most of those folks probably have
him killfiled, too. I guess it's good that someone actually reads his
posts so that newbies don't get the mistaken impression that he
actually knows what he's talking about.

Any significant modifications, or just the basic protein, fibrous veges,
incidental fats and carbs, and supplemental vitamins/minerals/EFAs?

That's a pretty fair description of the daily fare, but mine includes
periodic and targeted high-carbohydrate refeeds to stimulate
hyperleptinemia through insulin-mediated glucose uptake. Periodic
refeeds increase in frequency as body fat percentage drops; targeted
refeeds are timed for training sessions, along with whey protein.

I really did laugh out loud at the "tally ho" comment in your last post,
but this had me chortling a bit, too. It sounds so pretentious. Do you
really think of it this way? I mean, I do the same thing, but I think
of it more as, "doing this once in a while won't hurt me."

Again, I do the same thing (or I would if my body fat percentage ever
really dropped to meaningful lows) but I tend to do it sort of
backwards. "Ah, that was a bit of a carb-up. Better go lift some weights."

I remember distinctly how overjoyed I was to hear the term "strategic
deconditioning". It describes beautifully what I call "beach vacation"
yet puts it in the context of a feature, not a bug of my weight loss
journey. Smile

It also has a strong psychological aspect in terms of permissible
"cheating," which makes the diet more tolerable. Nevertheless, it
does a significant physiological effect of kicking up leptin levels,
particularly if you load simple sugars.

Knowing *why* it works is not essential to it working.

Oops. I forgot to mention that part. In my defense, that's not part of the
diet; it the space "between" the diet Smile

Indeed. If somebody with some good mass marketing skills ever takes this and
runs, NOT knowing would be a key feature, as it would have to be couched in
double speak gobbligook to hide it's simplicity.

I think the LMMPSMF has, as it's key psychological feature, the rapidity of
weight loss. Damn, it can be dramatic!

PSMFs have been discussed in the literature for well over a decade,
but they are considered emergency measures for the morbidly obese, and
the medical community would go into a feeding frenzy if they were
suggested for those within normal weight ranges.

Likewise, refeeds have been discussed in the literature. The problem
is that they require some discipline, which obese people tend to lack.
To some folks, a periodic refeed is like telling a recovering chronic
alcoholic that he can do two shots of his favorite liquor every
Saturday night, but that's all.

On an official level, the medical community will piss all over
anything that [a] isn't long-term sustainable, and [b] requires some
degree of timing and self-discipline. PSMFs are for a niche market.

Au contraire matey, it was simply a "troll" post to prove what a lying

It's all about your master plan to rid the Group of the dreaded
"trolls", of which you are the most prolific you dopey old bastard.

And you have taken the bait hook line and sinker, although you had to
do it via the third party route when another poster inadvertently
picked up my obvious "troll".

You be careful you don't get too involved in matters that don't
concern you Wendy; we don't want you to have another attack of the
vapours! ;o)

Sticking your nose up Williams bum to curry favour is not necessarily
a sensible thing to do - but then you and common sense are relative
strangers.

Some people are very easily amused. Can you imagine how dull someone would
have to be to 'laugh out loud' at "tally ho"?? And she 'really did' laugh
out loud. She really really did do that.

But then you know Dolly's predisposition towards hysterics; she'll be
screaming "rape" and "stalking" and other defilements if you continue
telling her what a silly cow she is.

Like Williams she can't resist having a go at one of her critics when
someone else indicates some form of criticism of them. Of course that
works both ways and they don't like it up them do they?

I see John Williams fantastic "troll" filters are working wonderfully
well. So well in fact that everyone is in everyone else's "killfiles"
(bozo bin for the more esoteric) and no bastard is able to see anyone
else's posts.

It was the logical conclusion! ;o)
