Post subject: Question about fat deposits
Archived from groups: misc>fitness>weights (more info?)

I'm a 41 y/o male, been working out pretty hard since the beginning of the
year.
I lift on MWF, do cardio on the other days, and sometimes I even do some
more
cardio later on the days I lift. I'm up to 60-75 minutes on an elliptical
stair climber
machine. I've increased my protein intake, lowered intake of calories (not
excessively)
- particularly carbs and fat, and I take vitamins and a few other
supplements.

I read Tom Venuto's arcticles on "stubborn" body fat, and I like the
swimming
pool analogy he used - where it when on first all those years ago, it will
come
off last. I think I've made some decent headway the last 8 weeks:

1/2) weight 177, waist 36.5, body fat 24.1%
2/1) weight 167, waist 34, body fat 21.7%
2/22) weight 164, waist 33, body fat 17.3%

So far, I think I've made a decent start. I've noticed some nice gains in my
lifts,
and my overall muscularity is a lot closer to where it was when I was 30.
And
while I don't really have a specific target for ultimate body fat %, I'd
like to go
as low as I can, and I eventually want to get my waist size back down to
31".
I'm really committed to getting into the best shape of my life.

Here's my question: I still have the fat deposits in my lower abdomen,
waist,
and lower back. According to Venuto, this will be the LAST area that I see
the fat come off of. Is there a body fat percentage that I should expect to
start seeing this come off? Am I closing in on it?

Thx in advance,
Tony

And it worked too. Just look at what great shape Africa is in today.

I'm at 12% bodyfat and it is all focused in the same area. Really annoying
too, I'm gonna work to get down to 8% at least momentarily to see if it will
go away. It's strange to be in such great shape and still have remnants of
the old love handles.

I'm 47 yrs old and 11-12% currently. I have the same fat spots...first on,
last off. The funny thing is, I almost looked leaner when I was around 14%.
I think it's because I've lost the fat below the skin on the ribs and
midsection, but not on the love handles as much. Makes them stick out more.
I've been cutting since mid December (was 14.4% then after bulking cycle)
and I'm down 8 lbs, but have been at 191 for a couple of weeks now. Too
many "refeed" days on the weekends mixed with rum. Smile

I'd like to see 10% in a month or so.

I'm 54 and down to 9.2% now and still see lovehandles unless I straighten
myself up and lift my arms a bit. Like they'll go away if I cross my arms
over my chest and stand tall. I also feel that there is some loose skin
still around, that hopefully will tighten backup if I'm able to stay this
way for some time. Still no sixpack visible though.

I don't understand why you wouldn't have visible abs at 9%. Mine showed at
<14%. Do you do weighted crunches?

Absolutely. I do crunches with a 25 kg plate and two different abchairs. One
straight and one rotating. I use the full weightmagazine in both chairs.

How do you define visible abs? I can of course see my abs, but they are not
defined in such a way that I can distinguish the sixpack. I can vaguly guess
where it will come out. Maybe I have excess fat around the tummy? My
calipers read 14 mm on the tummy and 4 mm on breast and thigh both.
According to the automatic calculation the sum of that = 22mm = 9,2% for a
54 y/o dude.
