I'm currently 6'6" 270 and and have been lifting steadily for 9 months
after a couple years off. I've been bulking for 3 months and have
developed an admirable gut. I was gonna wait till the spring to cut but
feel like I'm letting it get away from me and would like to start now. I
want to get down to around 240 and of course would like to spare as much
muscle as possible. Based on various things I've read, I'm thinking
along the lines of 3000-3500 cal/day; 30% from protein, 45% carbs & 25%
fat. Does this sound reasonable or should I adjust?
I should also mention that I'm planning on adding 30 min cardio 2x/week.
Thanks. >> Stay informed about: Getting too fat -- need cutting advice |

Do you know how many calories you eat now to just maintain your weight?
Could be less than 3000 ya know.
For a bit of fatloss plus muscle maintainence probably 10x your body
weight might be a better starting point.

Thats not enough to do any benefit really.

Sounds sensible to me.

Well frankly I just dangled that out there to see if that would serve
any purpose to burn some fat. But based on your question and joanne's
link, it looks like there might not be much use to it. I figured that
doing _some_ cardio would be better than none. >> Stay informed about: Getting too fat -- need cutting advice |

So what?
I mean, okay, most people never enter that "fat burning zone." But you STILL
create a caloric deficit by burning whatever it is that you burn. Something
gets burned.
And what you eat after that replaces what you burned. And you slowly lose
fat.
Cardio still burns more calories then intense sessions with heavy weights. A
set takes me about 15 seconds. If i do 30 sets in 2 hours that is still only
7 1/2 minutes time under tension.
And thats NOT much calories.

Don't disagree with any of that. However, most people seem to think that
cardio is some magic bullet that will change them from a fat-bastard into
whatever it is they want to be.
BTW: my BMI is 31; I am therefore officially OBESE.

Its more difficult then that, i agree.
For men, a perfect solution is the use of a "low androgenic" steroid for 3-4
months, and go on a low carb/high protein diet.
Also, high doses of HCG were prescribed to men in the past. Works very well,
but i have no idea how.
> BTW: my BMI is 31; I am therefore officially OBESE.
Yup, *clinically* OBESE.
Dont feel bad...
My BMI is still 34. I feel anorexic at 30. At 32 i feel slightly
uncomfortable.
I feel great at 40...

The majority of powerlifters are overweight, just like the SHW
weightlifters...
