I take a lot of pride in building things. Sure I
can usually buy the things I build cheaper but hey
it's just the way I am. Examples: http://www.freakyacres.com
Now I want to build a squat rack/cage. I lift alone
and I am concerned about safety. Therefore any exercise
where the weight is over me I use a machine. I haven't
squatted at all. I have totally neglected my legs even
though I have done good with the upper body. I think
a cage would be the best with the bar fastened on tracks
for safety. But here again I know nothing about squatting.
What is the safest type of equipment to squat alone with?
Links to products would be great. Once I get the equipment
set up I will be back to learn technique.

If you want to work with metal, can weld and drill a lot of big holes, then
build a power rack. There are a million pictures of power rackson the web.

If you want to be safe when doing some bench presses and squats for just
yourself, a simple step rack will do.

I think I have a couple drawings around here that I could send you if
interested. E-mail me if interested.

I have built a lot of these things over the years. When you decide what you
want, check in with me and I can give you a couple pointers.

You know I see that powertec has a power rack for $350 plus $35 shipping.
I may just buy one since they are so cheap. I figured I was looking a
grand. What do you think of the powertec power rack? Also fitness factory
outlet says they have free shipping on most items. Have you or anyone
else listening dealt with them? I tried to call them but they are closed
right now. It would be fun to build but if I buy one I can start right away.
Any onlines stores that you recommend?
