On pro-style (fixed weight) dumbbells, how large of 1" plates are typically
used? Is it 20 lbs, ie: for a 100 lb dumbbell would it be several 20 lb
plates and some smaller ones?

Thanks,
Dave

It's usually 10s and smaller.
Ten 10s for a 100 pounder.
Four 10s and two 5s for a 50 pounder.
Twenty 10s for a 200 pounder.

Don't they count the weight of the handles and end caps? They could add
around 3 to 8 lbs, depending on the handle length for larger and smaller
dumbbells. I was assuming I should count them, but maybe you know better
than me.

Of course, if they count them, the total weight would be some messy fraction
that would need to be rounded, and it would be a pain to figure out the
correct combinations.

My point was that they use 10s to make up the
bulk of the weight.

No.

And the handles increase in length every 20 lbs of progression too.

FYI I figured out that the handles and end caps together actually add
anywhere from about 4.6 to 8 lbs, with the ones I have, so I'll be pretty
comfortable just rounding off the overhead to 5 lbs for every dumbbell and
call it even, and not try to mess with some 1.075 lb plates.
