Archived from groups: misc>fitness>aerobic (more info?)

I think I posted this a while back, but the questions have come up again.

1. How often do you change your choreography?

2. Where do you get ideas for new choreography?

3. How do you remember long, complex routines?

I teach step aerobics at three different clubs and am AFAA certified. I've
taught aerobics for 10 years. I try change my choreography for every class, and
it's tough to come up with an hour's worth of new material every week!

I occassionally get new material from videos, but the last three I bought are
hard to follow (they teach extremely complex choreography with very few
repetitions, so I have to keep rewinding the tape. Doesn't help that the camera
guys switch angles at crucial parts of the routine!). I also visit other
instructor's classes when I can (tough when you teach six days per week) and
occassionally check out www.turnstep.com.

Thanks for your advice,
Lois

1. All the time, because I get bored easily and one of the main
reasons I trained to be an Aerobics Instructor myself is because I
got bored with other peoples classes where they continually re-use
the same routines.
2. Everywhere. I do other peoples classes a lot, from Hi NRG to Step, to
Combat, to Salsa - I get ideas and put them together. I have also
done some choreography classes to pick up some tips. I also look
online. I like to mix and match from lots of other classes and then
put my own stamp on it. That way it's easier to learn and to teach
when you're using familiar steps but just with a new twist.
3. I write them down and practise. Good luck Smile
