Post subject: Visceral Fat
Archived from groups: misc>fitness>weights (more info?)

Hi all,

I'm 17 years old and male.
Although I am skinny/thin and underweight as well I have lot of
visceral fat which results in a very bloated and pooching
abdomen/belly.
This is quite strange as I'm both underweight and obese at the same
time (being called such accumulation of visceral fat "central obesity")
I'm trying to get rid of it especially for health reasons.
I've bought a set of free weights and I'm not following any particular
elitist diet but Walter Willett approach to focus on good carbs
(legumes, low glycemic fruits, vegetables) good fat (nut, olive oil,
fish) and healthy proteins (eggs, poultry) instead of worrying about
the exact ratios.

I would like to know what can I do to get rid of my belly fat.
How can I lose weight if I'm already underweight?
and if I am underweight because I'm undermuscled, how can gain muscle
mass and losing visceral fat at the same time?
Can I lose visceral fat while being on weight maintenance caloric
intake?
and if not how can I afford to be on a caloric deficit intake if losing
weight would make me even more underweight and look like an anorexic?

Maybe my "problem" can be a pretext to discuss new information about
the problem of visceral fat and how to lose it

Thanks in advance,

J. David

Height, weight and body fat percentage if known?
Have you asked anyone else if they think that you have a very bloated
abdomen??
Can you post a link to a digital photo of yourself.

You cannot selectively get rid of belly fat. YOu can get rid of fat
by ingesting few calories than you expend. Genetics determines where
the body fat comes off first and last.

>How can I lose weight if I'm already underweight?

Underweight but maybe not under fat.

>and if I am underweight because I'm undermuscled, how can gain muscle

It is not so easy. You can cycle your calories so one week you consume
more than maintenance and the next less than maintenance.

Probably not.

Again it is important to have more objective measure by body fat
percentage and picture to give a reasonable reply.

Most men tend to preferentially store body fat around their abdomen.
It will be the last to go when you lose fat.

Dear psycho-teen,
What's your height and weight? Even a 3rd grader knows it is impossible
to be overweight and underweight at the same time. Go see a shrink, and
stop seeking advice from these roided out idiots.

The potential for spot reduction of bodyfat is essentially nil.
Different people develop adipose tissue in different places, and the
places where it is prominent are usually the last places to go.

You will do much better if you start lifting regularly, and continue
to increase the weight. Putting on more muscle mass will shift your
nutrient partitioning and make that fat easier to lose.

But how can I increase my weight if I have to decrease it (losing fat)
?
How can I put on more muscle mass while losing fat mass?

Thanks

Unless you have unusually small bones I suspect that your body fat
percentage is quite low with those measurements. I also suspect that
your problem is that most all of your body fat is abdominal
subcutaneous fat that is especially prominent because the rest of your
body is so thin.

If you had more muscularity you might not notice it as much. I don't
think that you want to lose any more weight/fat given how little you
weigh for your height. I think your best strategy is to put on some
muscle mass by eating hypercalorically with adequate protein and get
into a regular lifting program using moderate to heavy weights. Once
you have added the muscle you can then go on a cutting cycle during
which time you will preferentially lose fat (and maintain most of the
muscle gains).

It may take several months to a year for you to gain enough mass
before the fat loss will result in your abdomen not looking so
bloated. Also realize that your genetics is working against you and
that your body will always preferentially store fat in your abdominal
area. Liposuction may be useful but I would not recommend surgical
intervention before trying what I suggested.

I also suggest that you get some calipers and get your body fat
measured so that you can monitor changes as you work on body
recomposition.

You are nuts. That is bascially all you need to know about the
subject.

Want abs of steel instantly? Then don't eat for 12 hours. Follow with
abdominal exercises.

Ha, ... Hah, Ha!

You have my condolences. Sad

All I know is that anybody who thinks a 34 inch waist is central
obesity is a few beers short of a six pack.

You could also be a 17 year old male. They generally are Arses.

I don't believe belly fat and visceral fat are the same thing.
