Well, it IS pretty cruel when they drop the live cow into the pot of boiling
water.

Never heard of a famous vegetarian bodybuilder? Bill Pearl is probably
the most well-known of vegetarian bodybuilders. At his own peak as a
bodybuilder when he last won the Mr. Universe in 1971, Bill weighed 242
pounds at a height of 5'10" and his arms measured 21 inches! Bill
stopped using steroids by 1961.
He won the professional Mr. Universe title in 1971, at the age of 41,
without the use of steroids and as a vegetarian, and is recognized as
one of the all-time greats of bodybuilding. Bill's diet is lacto-ovo
vegetarian, which means he eats eggs and dairy products.
He describes his experiences with the conversion to vegetarianism.
"With each succeeding year the diet (lacto-ovo vegetarian), I've felt
better. I'm more healthy, I can train with more energy, and I'm not as
much of a "hard guy" as I used to be. I've become more concerned with
my fellow man and the other inhabitants I share the planet with. ...I
have now been vegetarian for almost 20 years. We have no fish, fowl, or
red meat in our diet. Yet I can still carry the same amount of muscle
as I did in winning my four Mr. Universe titles. People can't believe
it. They think that to have big muscles you have to eat meat - it's a
persistent and recurring myth. But take it from me, there's nothing
magic about eating meat that's going to make you a champion
bodybuilder. Anything you can find in a piece of meat, you can find in
other foods as well." >> Stay informed about: Vegetarian diet for muscle building |

So, after years of eating meat and using anabolic steroids (which we have
his word only that he stopped) to build the muscle, his "my vegetarianism
makes me better than you" allowed him to maintain it? Wow. I'm so impressed.

If I could buy boots that wouldn't result in further injury/fracture
that weren't made of leather, I would. As I can't, I buy one pair that I
can wear for any occaision.

he still hasn't answered my question as to if he eats dairy and eggs,
which don't involve the direct killing of animals to obtain (and I
suspect the chickens aren't too inconvenienced, either, unless they're
battery hens, which is something cruel).

If we hadn't taken over the planet, six foot tall chickens would be
hunting the primates. We must continue to eat them to maintain global
dominance. Hasn't anyone seen Jurassic Park?????
As for mammals, I won't eat anything that has emotions like we do, we
being mammals. I couldn't send an animal that I believe can feel to the
place I somehow have managed to keep dodging. After my heart did the
flip flop stop stop dance that last time I just couldn't eat them anymore.

A local farm raises emus and whenever I buy their meat I tell the
children we're having "dinosaur" for dinner.
My Small Boy is going to be very disappointed with me some day when he
figures it out.

Emotions like we do? Does that mean you can eat psychopaths? Or at
least cats? And I would hesitate before I ascribed emotions to sheep.

Seriously, Ari, death awaits everything. Life is a gift to the ones
that get born to be meat. Just say, "thank you" to their spirit.
You can respect the gift and still eat it at the same time.

I won't eat calamari...neuroscience loves the squid for technical
reasons, and the more we learn about it the more we are surpised. Same
with octopi...smarter than small children in several tests, and the
camoflage of some squid is a technical marvel.

Are you implying that my favorite recipe for chimpanzee/whale stew is
obsolete?

So, you want me to substitute small children for the chimp and whale?
Hmmm...well, I do have a convenient source.
