Terri Schiavo Diet Book Tops NYT Bestseller List
by Scott Ott
http://www.scrappleface.com/MT/archives/002081.html
(2005-02-22) -- With the Atkins diet fad waning,
obese American women have embraced a new book,
"The Terri Schiavo Diet: No Willpower Required,"
pushing it to the top of the New York Times
bestseller list.
The book, penned by a ghostwriter for Mrs.
Schiavo, promises "dramatic weight loss and life
change without any need to personally make
difficult decisions."
"For those women who have repeatedly failed to
direct the course of their own lives, the Schiavo
diet offers one last option," according to a
publicist. "Millions of women have dreamed of a
day when they could limit their caloric intake
almost unconsciously."
Profits from the sale of the book will go to Mrs.
Schiavo's husband, Michael, who along with several
judges had a major role in helping his wife
drastically reduce her food consumption.
"Women nationwide have embraced the Schiavo Diet's
notion of putting their husbands in complete
control," the unnamed publicist said. "It can
really strengthen marriages...if not the current
marriage, then certainly the next one."

it took me more than 10 minutes to decide that this was not true.
and I wonder. I think I would simply have believed it if I had not seen

Her heart attack was suppposedly caused by dropping
from 250 lbs to 110 both before and after her wedding.
She drank a gallon of tea a day which depleted her
electrolytes. Some of the fertility treatments may have
contributed- at least thats what the civil suit awarding
her and husband a megabuck was based on.
May she find peace. >> Stay informed about: Terri Schiavo Diet Book Tops NYT Bestseller List |

I did not know.
what I find terrible is the way Bush or the media or both were able to
instantly create the public feeling that "today we saved a life":
a life was safed! today, Palmsunday, the American people saved a
life!
imagine how hard it was for the judge to keep his cool.
at the same time, yesterday for the first time, in the Herald Tribune I
saw "terror" (in hypothesizing quotation marks) and the (old?) US
foreign policy theme mentioned as "the so called war on terror".
one year ago tghe author would have been tarred and feathered or
dragged along naked on the leash of private England. >> Stay informed about: Terri Schiavo Diet Book Tops NYT Bestseller List |

Isn't it amazing how you can put together a whole bunch of words, all of
which are in English, each of one having a definition, but, when taken as a
whole, is indecipherable?
Scotch, or gin?

"indecipherable" is probably not what you mean. you mean that it can
be deciphered but does not make sense as a whole.
the problem is that I am not American. it makes me sick to see the US
going on a crusade. it is sickening to watch those 200 000 000
individuals being moved to join the crusade of saving Iraq or saving a
life.
if you live there, you might not see the parallel.
in fact, there is not much of a parallel, except in the way Bush took
hold of the show in the name of Good Vs. Evil.

OK, sure. It did make sense as a whole. We agree.

I'm going to make some assumptions as to what you mean, because, as you
point out, you are not American, English is probably not your native
language, and you can be a bit confusing.
A "crusade" to save Iraq or to save Terry Schiavo makes you sick, why,
exactly? Are not those desirable goals? I disagree with the
characterization of "crusade", but, that aside, why are you sickened?
>
> if you live there, you might not see the parallel.
I do not see any valid analogy between a war to defeat my country's
enemies (you may disagree with the characterization, but that is how
"we" see it), and sincere disagreement among reasonable people as to
the morality of allowing a severely brain damaged woman to die in the
manner that she is. No analogy whatsoever.

He has not made the Terry Schiavo case a "Good Vs. Evil" campaign, and
it is misleading, to say the least, for you to so state. He has clearly
recognized it as what I stated above. He has followed his beliefs and
his faith, and done so within the law.
The war on Islamic fundamentalist terrorism IS "good vs evil", and that
is essentially the belief of those of us who elected him. So, for us,
his "crusade' is a good thing.

they are. in fact, because of the noise, the drama, it is not possible
to find out why, why, why they cannot allow her family to take care of
her. it is incredible. and nobody even mentions the money involved: how
much does it cost to maintain her? who pays? how much is at stake for
him? how much do the law suits cost? what keeps this thing going?

you do not know who your enemies are. that is why your bombs do not
work.
you cannot send an army out to catch a man. a man is much too mobile,
and a rich man more so.
you cannot use bombs to find weapons. weapons too are mobile.

some of you.

the "axis of evil" and the "rogue nations" are concepts that he
launched. he seems to truly love a fight. so he started a fight or two.
that was a bad thing to do.
maybe now he will try to reverse the trends that he more or less
inadvertently, light heartedly set off. he seems to have become a bit
more cautious.
