I want to buy a good Spinning bike for my home. For me, it's the best
cardio to rip off the fat, and I can't find any good classes in the
town I moved to. Can anyone recommend any good brands/models?

Indeed. Especially considering that "spinning" was designed as a group
activity, with a leader, who, along with the peer pressure, motivates
the spinners to push themselves harder than they might achieve
otherwise.

Solo spinning would be like...uh, solo strip poker.

Why not just buy a REAL BICYCLE and get out on the road? Get some fresh air
and such.

I have a Kreitler roller setup for my bike but I could never get into
stationary pedaling. I need a destination or at least a road... I couldn't
find the link just now but I recently came across an excerpt from "Effective
Cycling" on the utility of maintaining a high cadence. I'm doing a lot of
spinning in really low gears, trying to keep it at 90 and above. As my
conditioning improves, I'll upshift but only as long as I can maintain a
high cadence. It does seem to have benefits for cardio training, since you
can keep going almost indefinitely.

As a cyclist, I can get a decent workout on a spin bike without some
lycra-clad bozo hectoring me.

Riding the rollers is different from riding a spin bike and certainly
different from any other kind of stationary trainer, because with
rollers you're actually riding a bike. You just don't go anywhere.

For a cyclist, there are many training advantages to the rollers. But for
your heart or as a calorie burner I don't see any difference.
