SLOW WALKING MAY SUIT THE OBESE BEST

Strolling can help obese adults burn more calories per mile than brisk
walking and might even lower the risk of arthritis and injuries to the
joints. University of Colorado at Boulder researchers studied 20 men
and women of normal weight and 20 considered obese as they walked set
distances at different speeds. They found that the obese burned more
calories walking at a slower pace for a longer time than walking at a
faster speed. Vigorous exercise can decrease the risk of heart disease
and other chronic illnesses. But researchers say that a slow walk can
help people stay active while easing the stress on their joints. Obese
adults are more at risk for knee osteoarthritis, which can cause
painful stiffness. "We're not at all advocating less physical
activity, or less vigorous activity. We're just saying slow walking
might be a way to burn a few extra calories a week," says lead
researcher Ray Browning.

Well, the best exercise is the one you actually do. If that's all they
can comfortably do, then what the hell.

It's the same principle in LSD running. Longer, slower, distance runs,
burn more cals in a 24 hour period, than the same distance very fast.
The LSD runner burns more calories sleeping, than a non-runner or
faster runner.

I also figure the more time they're out walking, the less time they're
in eating.

oh. oh. that'll stir things up. EVERY over-weight person I
know says they "hardly eat anything".

and as for advocating walking slowly, watch a walker. how
many do you see actually going fast enough to raise
their heart rate to 60 to 70 per cent?

all this is just talk-talk. people are generally the weight
they want to be. a few want to change, and will be
successful. since more than half of the population is considered
obese, i'd say lowering suggested minimums won't help.
they won't do it anyway. the motivation has to come
from their own environment. perhaps a girl telling
a guy he's too fat. or fat girls being passed over
by the fellows. now that's motivating.

however, many men have figured out that getting
a fat girl is easy. so they compliment her. they're
not going to say anything bad. as long as the
line "works". women need to become more
self-aware. and take care of their bodies. i don't
see it happening.

That's "eat like a bird".

You know, twice their bodyweight in food per day.
