"The New Rules of Lifting" by Lou Schuler (ISBN: 1583332383) might by
similar to what You are looking for. i have just started reading it, but
it seems similar to what You are looking for. Mr. Schuler's other books
might interest You as well.

Most books on bodybuilding would probably have the information You are
looking for too.
