I have been having a lot of pain after lifting and during my off times.
The pain subsides while I am lifting, but in the off-times it really hurts.

Pain in areas such as arms and chest. I do have arthritis and wonder if
this just promotes the pain more.

I wondered if not getting enough sleep and/or protein in would affect
the amount of soreness/pain I am feeling?

Thanks for your input...

All of your questions ought to be put to a doctor, but not to a doctor
who'll tell you to stop lifting without thinking about it.

There are some good resources out there for joint health these days -
much good information has been around for a long time, of course, but
some of it is nicely packaged now as well. I'd consider "Super Joints"
by Pavel Tsatsouline http://www.kbnj.com/sj.htm - I own this book and
it's been great for me. I've also bought a video tape by Steve Maxwell
that includes a routine you can do along with him and I believe he's got
more than one video of this sort out there. See
http://www.maxercise.com and follows the links there, and his stuff is
available on DragonDoor's site as well. I've also heard good things
about Scott Sonnon's "Warrior Wellness" tape/dvd but haven't seen it so
I can't comment other than to say some people seem to think very highly
of it.

Hope that's of some help to you.

I have arthritis in my back and sometimes when I go heavy on my squats,
I feet it, not all the time though. Yes, arthritis can trigger pain
while you're lifting. But be more specific on "pain". Is it joint pain?
Muscle pain?, etc. If its joint related, how's your form? Are you going
too heavy? Do you warm up?. As you can see, there are alot of factors.

Thanks for two replies I receive.

The pain I feel usually is after working out, though I get aching
through my forearms during heavy curls (at least they are heavy for me,
maybe not other...). My pain remains in my forearms mostly during the week.

As for my shoulders and elbow. I went to see my doctor and he sent me
for shoulder x-rays. My left shoulder has a visible lump on top and I
have a lot of pain there. I am trying to remember, but I think he said
that my ACL could be separated and inflamed.

Hope I don't have to go to an ortho to get it fixed. This whole shoulder
thing has frustrated me. I have only been working out for about five
months and have really gotten addicted to it! I look forward to working
out (4 days a week) before work in the morning.

It is hard for me to be patient and take time off from lifting...I am
almost afraid that I will lose the "gym bug" and stop working out
altogether.

Sorry for the rant.
