Advice needed - newbie - Hello everyone I was just after a little advice really, there seems to be so much on the web, but I figured it would be better getting info from the horses mouth, so to speak. :) I'd like to develop my upper body somewhat, I'm fairly slim at the moment.

Overweight, Thick as Pig Shit Newbie seeks Advice(lite-hea.. - I am as described in the header, but I'm making progress. My question is this: Back when I last worked out (and that Austrian guy was going for win #7 - yes, that long ago) I am SURE the process was, in EACH session -- Lift your MAX to failure..

My beginner workout routine good? - I started lifting weights about a month ago, and I have asked for advice from my friends and I wanted to know if what I am doing is correct. A typical week at the gym looks like this: (a rep about equal to 10 tries) Monday: 10 min run to warm up, 3..

Question for old newbie - Age 52, M, 5'11, lifelong narrow slightly wide hips. Just dropped 40 pounds to 175 on docs orders (eat most veggie, fish maybe three times a week.) Looking thin, but I am already losing muscle mass, I can tell, and sure enough when I went to..

It makes it suspect, but it's far from conclusive ... unless, of
course, one is pathologically paranoid. Given what we have seen of
your persona, I can see how you might be rather dogmatic in that
regard.

>What part of whey/gluc/creatine being largely irrelevant to whey/gluc timing

>I can't believe you cited that article *again*!!

When it's consistent with the findings of all the previous articles I
cited, *nonwe* of which involved creatine? Until you have read those
and are conversant in their findings, I'm not the one who is speaking
from ignorance. Neither is it my fault that I have been researching
this subject for a long time, whereas you have just started; the
recency of your interest does not place a burden on me to educate you.

But just so you understand, the *sole* issue which caused me to post
that article was the issue of timing. The other issues were discussed
in detail years ago, most prominently in a long thread between myself
and Lyle McDonald, where my arguments were supplemented with copious
cites and quotations from the actual studies. The fact that you may
have been busy trying to sell people HollowBars at that time is not my
problem.

>Another bullshitter stalking off with his toys....

You are, indeed. Nobody here is going to spoon-feed you the research,
then ask you to argue a subject which had to be explained to you in
the first place.

Run along now, the both of you.
Come back, brink, when you figger out the very interesting--but very
simple--kinetics of your fav. "no adverse reactions" creatine --->
creatinine.
Come back, jmw, when you figger out fukndigestion. Oh, and how to use
conversely.
<WAAAAAA>
I know, I know, you don't wanna play any more.

As usual, they (Little Willy and Old Johnny) hurl out a lot of
pseudo/scientific/medical bullshit, get called on it, bully and
bluster, can't cope - and then jointly run for the hills!!

But in fact that's the last thing they do because they watch all input
like hawks for fear of missing something. And as I said earlier, the
classic *alleged* Bozo Binner ("killfiler") always has to announce
publicly who and when they are allegedly "killfiling"!!

If they really just wanted to be rid of someone who gives them the
shits, they could just quietly add a filter and end of story. But,
they never, ever do - do they?!! ;o)

QED!

He' not able to to anything else. Soon as I see that's all they can do,
it's the bozo bin for them. Problem is, I still see his/their posts 'cause
you respond to them, and that throws the balance of the universe off.

If you don't get enough protein in your diet, then a supplement can help.
For the average person in the USA, the RDA is .8 grams of protein per kg of
body weight per day. This can change depending on the type of exercise you
do. After a workout or an hour or 2 before bed is when I usually take it. I
also use it in between meals at time so I don't too much high calorie stuff.

Whey protein seems to be popular because it contains a lot of the amino
acids required by the body. There are generally 3 types of whey protein
sold. Concentrate (about 80% protein) , Isolate (about 90% protein) and
Hydrolysed (claimed '100%'). I haven't tried hydrolysed but it is said to be
very bitter in taste (anyone used it?). It apparently has the advantage of
being absorbed into the body a lot quicker - I don't know to what extent.
Watch out for protein supplements that have fats and carbs added.

The absorption is fast enough that the type isn't really very
important.

If you consume it around the time of your training, which is when it's
most effective, it should include simple sugars for insulin release,
but I agree that you should add your own, rather than relying on what
the manufacturer decides to throw in.

Consuming whey at the time of training *without* the addition of
sugars will also be effective at eliciting muscle protein synthesis
and somewhat limiting muscle protein breakdown, but *less* effective.
