You would think a nice high protein diet would help. It might be all in
my head but my DOMS don't bother me as much, if I eat like a pig after
my workout.

Someone in here has got to have a better answer, with research...

Actually - it depends. On the type of workout, person, other dietary
considerations.

restoration can be enhanced by in very intense workouts by adding a
protein/creatine/glutamine drink after the workout. The glutamine can
reduce DOMS in some people - I don't know what the mechanism is. I
suspect this sort of approach works in weightlifters and powerlifters
who rely more on the ATP/CP energy system.

If you are doing more reps than you are probably depleting muscle
glycogen. So having a simple carb immediately after the workout can help.

Generally I think you want to drink enough fluids and follow a rational,
well balanced diet and don't over-reach in your training. Common sense
pretty much rooolz.

Not only that, but it puts pounds right back on, which makes me workout
more, which causes muscle aches, which make me deaden 'em with beer, which
....

No, I don't have a TBR (Terribly Big Rump). The fact you ask the
amount is quite disturbing.
A pint a day keeps the Dr away.

Actually, you're probably correct. More liquid (water, beer, Etc)
intake = more lactic acid washed out of the muscles = less aches and
pains. Beer might not be the best choice, though...

maybe listen to your body more rather than look for miracle cures.
(maybe there is a miracle cure) Vit C might help.

perhaps you're overdoing it - exercising too hard/too long. perhaps
not sleeping enough. perhaps you
shouldn't exercise daily.

or maybe aches don't matter so much, you could gamble that.

when starting off the body is least resistant, and if you push it too
hard, - it can ache for a week. at least it did in my case.

If you ache, it doesn't mean you overdid it. But if you feel you have
to exercise when you ache, then question whether you're overdoing it.
