Archived from groups: misc>fitness>aerobic (more info?)

Hi,

I am a relatively active 35 year old bloke.
I play rugby at the weekends, and traing with the club twice a week.
I keep myself relatively fit, but gave up doing weights when I was about 30.
I used to work quite hard and did have a pretty good physique. Nowadays I am
just concentrating on being fit enough to run around the park for 80
minutes.

The problem is that over the past few years, where I used to have a decent
set of pecs, and muscles showing everywhere, I have now developed a rather
unsavory set of man breasts. They are quite embarrasing and I cannot seem to
shift them.

I do not have a beer gut, and although I am not as trim as I could be, I
would not class myself as over weight ( 6ft tall, solid build, 90KGs
wieght).

Apart from wearing a T-shirt to the swimming pool, is there any form of
excercise that I can use to try and reduce this abhorrent change to my body?

Steve

A tricky one. I am in a similar position (now 32). It is down to
genetics that decides how much fat goes where. So really the only
solution is to reduce over all body fat.
And ofcourse, that requires a healthy diet and plenty of exercise.
Which I am sure you know all about already ! Personally I concentrate
on shoulder presses and bench presses, and do cardio in my martial arts
class. I figure that bigger shoulders will make any flab on the chest
appear smaller, adn the bench presses should help widen the chest too,
and have a similar effect (hopefully).

Other than that, not really sure !

If you find out a better solution, be sure to post it,

Cheers,

Jon.

1. See your doctor and find out if you have a health issue, e.g.,
hormones, that needs to be dealt with.

2. Check your body fat percentage - "not as trim as I could be" could
mean a lot of things. Don't rely on an electronic scale (but a
hand-held electronic monitor seems to work OK). Calipers are more work
but usually reliable.

3. The older you get, the more important resistance training becomes.
There are quite a few approaches to lifting weights that will also keep
you fit in cardiovascular terms - poke around on the Internet a bit and
do some reading on "strength/endurance" and similar terms.

Best of luck to you.
