Archived from groups: misc>fitness>aerobic (more info?)

Hi,

I recently used the treadmill in the gym and after about a mile I
started feeling discomfort in both knee's, mainly the left one. I
stopped running and started using some of the other equipment instead.
Prior to this (about 4 days earlier) I'd run about 4-5 miles on the
treadmill with no problems.

Its now about 1 week later and I'm still getting discomfort from my
knee's. Its got a little better but my right knee seems to click now
and again if I sit still for a while, its never done thart before on a
regular basis. I've never had any problems before, infact I used to get
shin splints but nothing more. I got some new trainers to fix the
problem with splints and I must say until the knee problem they seemed
to be working well.

I should mention I usually use the cycle machine at the gym for aerobic
fitness and only recently started using the runner again (about 3 weeks
ago). Im slightly overweight, well probably more than slightly Sad 6ft
male and 14 3/4 stone.

Any idea's what the problem with my knee's could be and how I make sure
it doesn't happen again ? Im hoping its muscle related and not some
mechanical problem with my joints.

Thanks for any advice

Steve

I had a Torn Meniscus and my knee would click. See a Doc.

Thanks for the reply Bob. Yes I may have to pop along to the doc. It
appears to be a bit better today which does make me wonder if I'd
actually pull some muscles or ligerments(sp?) around my knee. I'll
leave it a few days and then try a light workout on the cycle machine
in the gym and see how they feel after.

My cousin says he gets the same thing if he goes on a long mountain
hike. At the end of the day and for a few days after his knee's feel
stiff. He feels it especially when going down the hills and he thinks
its something to do with one of the muscles around the knee.

You're welcome.
FWIW When I tore the meniscus hiking down hills was the most painful thing to
do. I'm pretty sure I tore it while hiking down a steep hill wearing a full
pack. I returned to running 2 weeks after the surgery and ran a 26.2 mile
marathon 6 months later.
