In 1961, I was taking a guy home in an ambulance from a long stay in a
hospital. For a good part of that stay he didn't know if he would be leaving
alive.
He sat on the edge of the gurney and commented on how beautiful the day was.
It was a quite ordinary day for me, but I looked around and realized he was
right. It was a beautiful day, just as every day is.
Coming back from a walk this afternoon I saw a hawk cruising in a blue sky
with just passed rain clouds moving southward and I remembered that incident
as I have many times a year since that day. I laughed out loud and continued
on home.
For a short time the walk was the celebration and there was no need for a
reason.
