Just wanted to share....

I had to stop walking completely because my left hip was in too much pain
(bursitis). I was fine until I increased my distance too rapidly. Hip
couldn't take it.

Then I started a new job and spent a month getting used to that. This week,
I've been getting up at 5 a.m. and walking 4 miles a day. Feels great. It is
very hard to do, though. Every morning, I want to go back to sleep, but I
force myself to get up. I'm glad I'm doing this. My hip feels fine.

The salespeople at Gold's Gym were trying to tell me I could give up walking
and use their equipment instead. No way! I love to walk outside. You can't
get that experience in a stuffy gym.

As you walk, check out the skies. Look for Mars. Saturn will return
sometime this fall. Be ready for the meteor shower this November.

Astronomy is an important part of the study of nature, and the most
humbling. 5 am is a good time to think about it.

Hang in there Cat. You meet some nice people, usually, at 5AM. Baby that hip

Walking is not promoted as good
exercise in this country b/c
there's not a lot of money to
be made from it.

Great tip, John. Thanks! Now that I'm out of LA (I moved to Idaho late last
year), I can actually see the stars again.

Awww, thanks. I'm keeping a kind eye on the poor hip. So far, it is a happy
hip. :>

ROFL! I never thought of it like that, but you're undoubtedly right!

Huh?

Every article I see exhorting us (the general "us") to get regular exercise,
WALKING is mentioned as a great way to get some exercise! There is even a
column in the Washington Post (ok, it _is_ in the weekly health section)
about walking.

Or do you mean it's not "advertised"? Why _should_ a commercial organization
advertise walking? Of course, some actually do, indirectly -- they advertise
how comfortable their shoes are for WALKING.
