It may not be a lot to most of you, but for this 41 year old, it was a
first - breaking 100 kg on the 5s.

1st set without problem, 2nd set had to have a brief pause after 3 reps.

No pain, form OK, except my grip was beginning to slip on the last one - no
panic, but wouldn't have been able to do one more without letting go.

All in all, exhausted and elated. Gotta love those deads.....

Just hit 300lbs myself. It was not too long ago I broke 200. Its
always my grip that fails first. I'd probably be able to pull another
50lbs if I could hold on to it. As it is the third time I tried 300lbs
it slipped out of my hands on the way down (~5in from the ground).
First time that ever happened Sad I'm looking into some kind of wrist
strap for anything over 300lbs (will slide higher as my grip improves).

I found grip failure was a function of how many reps you do rather than the
weight. I'd have trouble with grip doing sets of 12 SLDL on 135 but no
problems doing triple deadlifts at 270 or so. It's the constant tension that
hoses your forearms, not the weight. Your forearms are basically working hard
through the entire 40 seconds or so that it takes to do that set of 5, whereas
the other muscles though under almost constant tension have a much more
variable workload.

Cheers,

Congrats ! Funny that, a while ago I did my first 100 K... seemed like a
lot at the time, but a little further down the road they don't impress me
any more. Funny how the perspective changes. But still, it's a milestone
lift, so thumbs up !

soon to RDL 150 Kg for 5

Do you use an alternate grip? One hand overhand, the other underhand?

Yeah, I do. However, having shoveled snow earlier in the day might have had
something to do with it as well <g>.

Hmm, I never thought about it that way, but I'll bet you're right. I think
it's time for some grip exercises.
