Because I can't back squat these days due to balance issues, for now at
least, and traditional front squatting never felt right for me, I tried
Goblet squats.

Grabbing a 40 kg dumbbell and doing a few sets I had no issues at all
with balance and it felt good. Anybody have any experience or advice
about them?

Cheers

It's basically the same as a front squat, surely? Try it with some serious
weight and see how it feels then!

Yeah, I get the Bomber's e-mail newsletters, and he talks about them
for folks like you...I was always afraid of the squat because I had
heard it could mess up the back; now that I actually have a messed-up
back I heard it could help strengthen the back and so I've been doing
it quite happily!

I'm not sure I understand the "balance issues" some folks have about
the traditional squat...probably using too much weight, in all
likelihood, if not some physiological abnormality involved....

These goblet squats seem to work the shoulders (in a "passive" way)
more than regular squats, though...interesting...but not something I
plan on trying out for myself. This looks a bit lame, truth to tell,
like something for girls in an aerobics class!

I like goblet squats despite (or maybe because of) the light weights. I
normally don't go heavier than an 80 lb dumbell but I squat all the way down
and it seems much harder to screw up on form than traditional bar squats. I
also notice my heartrate spikes higher with goblet squats than with bar
squats.
