You probably were not taking enough.
It fixed my shoulder, and it gave an elderly dog I had the ability to
walk again. Worked for her in just a few days. She had severe hip
arthritis.

The glucosamine/chondroitin/MSM treatment of osteoarthritis is one of the
best studied and most successful example of
alternative/complementary/non-orthodox/nutritional medicine in recent years.
But you are correct: the proper dose can vary, and if it doesn't work, you
probably didn't use enough. I usually tell people to start with 3000mg
glucosamine (and associated amounts of the others) a day until they feel
results, then slowly taper down to a maintenance of 1000mg+the others. But
if they don't feel results within a couple months, go to 6000-9000mg a day
until results, then taper.

What's really nice about it is that it's not just a painkiller.
It helps to regenerate connective tissue.

I generally recommend 1,000 mg. per 20 lbs. body weight for a week, then
taper down to 1/2 of that for 90 days. Maintenance at 1 to 2 grams per
day once you feel better.
Just plain GS works IMHO. MSM might be helpful but it's damned expensive.
Wal-mart carries just plain GS for a very good price, and that is what I
used on the dog.
She needed help to get out of her bed to go potty out in the yard and if
you put any pressure at all on her hip joints, she would scream.
1 month after starting her on just plain GS from Wal-mart, she was
chasing her doggy ball around the yard again. She never did go back
down before she died. I kept her on daily GS in her food for the rest of
her life which was about 4 years.
She weighed 45 lbs. and I kept her on 2 grams initially, the 1 gram per
day.

Does it have painkiller effects too? I know I took it to try to help
my arthritis, and it did little to nothing for me, but then I suspect
arthritis of the spine maybe a bit too much for it to help. But
there's no doubt that Spot would've been dead over a year ago if not
for that stuff, so it certainly does do something for some people. >> Stay informed about: Glucosamine better than common painkiller for knee arthritis |

I used the human stuff on my kitty. The stuff that's *special* for
cats is about 6x the price of the human stuff. Screw dat, I went to
Walmart too! I've been using the combo Glucosamine/Chon on her. Do you
think just the GS will work as well? >> Stay informed about: Glucosamine better than common painkiller for knee arthritis |

It must... My dog was not needing help out of her bed after only 4 days
of treatment. Somehow I doubt she "healed" that fast.
Evening primrose oil is a good natural anti-inflammatory and it's
supposed to work well with GS. That's what I used for my shoulder.

All I used on the dog was pure GS. From Wal-mart.
It seemed to work fine.
Hope it helps kitty!!!
My vet told me that dogs and cats could not digest regular Chondroitin.

Well, for Misty, I used 2 grams per day to start (she weighed around 45
lbs.) then cut it to one gram per day for the rest of her life.
Her pain was significantly reduced after only 4 days, and by the end of
the month, she was acting normal.
Try 3 grams to start, then cut that in half after a week.
Good luck!
