Short answer, according to Scientific American article.

"No."

Fat acceptance people notwithstanding, my take was, "Duh!"

I don't have the link (maybe Curt can google it), but there was a PBS
show (Nova episode?) about fat-looking folks competing successfully in
triathlons and such...one of 'em is a fat old champion runner of the
Death Valley marathon or something....

And, of course, I myself was beaten by a fat sailor friend of mine
back in my Army days...so some fat folks can certainly be fit enough!

Sure, piss off the fat folks.

When Global Warming causes widespread famine, they will eat you first.

They have to catch me. I'm betting on the fit folk being the predators.

And the gun people. Dayum. I'm up the creek...

Yup. A point I've made to various martial artists: put me in a room, in my
normal everyday attire, with any of the Gracie brothers, or a reincarnated
Bruce Lee, and have us fight to the death.

Bang, I win.

Damn you! I can't resist a Google challenge!

Search string: pbs, triathlete, obese

"roly-poly triathlete Dave Alexander" from
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/fat/etc/press.html to

"David Alexander, a 52-year-old Phoenix businessman, has successfully
completed 262 triathlons despite his weight of 250 pounds" @
http://select.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=F40D16F739540C758CDDAE...4DF494D
aka http://tinyurl.com/3xotr3

But looks like you'll have to pay for it.

The fact that he had physical talent (or you're *slow* ;o)) doesn't
necessarily indicate a level of fitness or, rather, I guess it would
depend on your definition of fitness.

Point is that statistically obesity is related to health problems. There
are always exceptions - you are talking a bell shaped distribution. So
you have some lean people with health problems and some fat people who
are healthy - the outliers. But the point remains. Fat isn't healthy and
the fat healthy people would still be fitter if they were leaner.

Wow, you are a regular Encyclopedia Brown you are! You should start
your own P.I. agency...maybe go into bounty hunting or something...you
would've caught Craig Titus, I bet....

> But looks like you'll have to pay for it.

I'd get you a gift subscription to the JMW Family News Quarterly, but
being a cat fancier I suspect you might already have one!

That's the thing...I used to think of physical fitness in the
"holistic" way of the Army...now I see that there are different kinds
of fitnesses, for different particular tasks or sports....

So one can appear fat but be fit, or not be fat but weak...more than
meets the eye, IOW -- and, even, current scientific understanding!
Them powerlifters are usually fatbodies, aren't they.

Agreed. Like you said, "Duh!"

Regardless, I'm no fan of the blanket statement and suspect that lean
people with health problems are, at times, quick to dismiss someone
fat as less fortunate than themselves. A mistake, imo.

Apparently he told a friend where he was going and left a paper trail
by trading in his vehicle. Criminal genius.

The reviewjournal website offers, "Titus is charged with murder in the
death of his personal assistant, Melissa James, 28. The woman was
found strangled and burned in the back of Ryan's torched red Jaguar on
Dec. 14, off state Route 160."

Titus and Ryan are both guilty, imo. He stuck Melissa James in his
trunk and Ryan gets a manicure? Hey, what's not reasonable about that?
Ryan didn't know about the body?

"Honey, let's take a road trip."

The sad part about it is that you just KNOW the mass media is going to
try to stick steroids in there somewhere...

You just wait. :-p

What else could it be? The guy was getting it from two babes. Why did he
ruin everything for himself? STEROID RAGE. Found the girls munching each
other and he went nuts and slammed Melissa James head into the bench press
machine and then dropped the weight stack on her neck.

Have you seen titus' video when he was transferred to prison? I mean,
for the first time that guy looked scared...

A qoute from the vid:

Officer: Any injuries?
