My father-in-law has been suffering from pretty debilitating pain in
his legs for the last few years. He's in his late-50s. The pain has
defied diagnosis, until recently.

He's not much up on medicine, but told my wife that the doctor had
determined he had too much Creatine, and that was causing the pain.

Firstly, does this sound right? Secondly, what would you do to
ameliorate such a thing?

No. I'm reasonably certain the doctor said "creatinine."

And, if he did, what does creatinine have to do with chronic leg pain?

Somebody is having a communication problem. Call the doctor directly.

Thanks - I'm kinda guessing the communication problem. I knew I could
count on you folks for ideas.

Creatinine as others have said. Also remember that the normal ranges of
this aren't correct for those with much muscle mass. I'm always above
normal here. The doc who first was alarmed, after I advised him, did
some research to find out that most lifters will have elevated serum
levels of this.

I can't link this to leg pain in any way.

Creatinine. High creatinine is a symptom of chronic kidney disease. If
your dad can't understand these things, please arrange to go with him to
his next appointment. He needs someone there who can ask questions for him.

I'm going to die rather sooner than I'd like. I tried to protect my
neighbours from crime, and became the victim of it. Complications in
hospital following this resulted in a serious illness. I now need a bone
marrow transplant. Many people around the world are waiting for a marrow
transplant, too. Please volunteer to be a marrow donor:

Hi Paul,

Could you ask your doc for some of those references he found? I'm having
trouble finding them, and my doc is freaking out about my creatinine and
wants to change my medication because of it. I went along with it and
had almost lost this semi-remission I'm in (I still don't think I'm
producing red cells again).

Cheers,

Ari

Ari,

Been too long since I"ve seen that doc. He rather easily found the refs
online outside of restricted medical references. In other words, he just
want online and Alta Vista'd them up while I was there looking over his
shoulder. I suppose any search engine would work.

I just Yahoo'd up dozens of references. Here is one of many:
