Hi,

Although the Deadlift and Squat are performed differently, it looks
like they should hit the same muscle groups. So can I substitute one
for the other? I ask because I work out at home and don't have a
squat rack. I could do dumbbell squats, but they're even more like
the deadlifts.

Right now, here's my planned routine (HIT) to be done every 2 days:

Bench Press
Dead Lift/Squat
Shoulder Press
Renegade Rows
Weighted Crunches
Bicep Curls

Feedback appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

He's been cited on this newsgroup before but I never really started reading
his stuff until I saw a recommendation on the Moynihan Institute website,
which I was reading mostly for the comedic value.

http://moynihaninstitute.com/

Another interesting site he mentions, started by Mark Twight:

http://www.gymjones.com/

Dan Jones seems to be a class act. He was involved in the Crossfit forum,
but the out of control ego of Greg Glassman ended that association.
Apparently Mark Twight is also persona non grata at Crossfit.

Thanks! The section on using 2 sawhorses for a squat rack alone is
worth the entire book. The biggest reason I was thinking of the
Deadlift vs. Squat was because I didn't have a squat rack. You've
taken care of that one for me!

Thanks again.

Let us know how it works out. I'm going to get back to more off the floor
stuff myself.

So far, it worked out well. I bought two adjustable sawhorses (Task
Force brand) for about $20 each at Lowe's. They're rated for 1,200
lbs, although they feel a bit wobbly. They go as high as 40", which
is just a bit higher than I am at my ideal squat, so it works out
well. I worked out with them today and was pleased. It was a bit
narrow, getting in there, but once I was in position, everything went
smoothly, and they kept me from going too low.

Let me know if you need any more info on this.

Take Care.

Steve should know. I thought it was funny that the Moynihan guy retracted
almost e/g he said about Pavel. Pavel's lawyers must be good, or they had
some other way of getting to him.
