Post subject: Diet and Exercise Tracking Software Second Post
Archived from groups: misc>fitness>weights (more info?)

Hi

A while ago I posted a message asking for some help. I wanted to see if you
guys wouldn't mind checking out the fitness software that we are developing
and get your opinion about it. We also wanted to see if there was something
we could do to improve it.

Unfortunately, for the most part, we got a bunch of emails from people who
did not want to have their data stored online and people wondering what
would happen if for some reason our servers or their Internet connections
went down. In other words, you guys were requesting a version that did not
require being online.

Well, we now have the free stand-alone version that runs completely in your
computer. So could you guys please check out the software and give us your
opinion?

The software is totally free and it does not have an expiration date. Also,
the forums do not require you to verify your email. If you don't feel
comfortable giving away your email then simply put a bogus email. The
primary reason why the forum asks you for you email is for cases where you
have to reset your password.

To download the free software please visit www.dietandexercisetracker.com.

Thanks.

Dick:

The software will **ONLY** try to access the Internet during installation
and **ONLY** if you don't have the right version of the Dot Net framework
installed. This is clearly specified on the download page:

---------------------------
In order for the program to run, your computer must have the .Net 1.1
framework installed. If you don't have the framework then the setup program
will automatically download it for you.
---------------------------

If for whatever reason, you don't want the software to download the Dot Net
framework automatically, there is a link (to the Microsoft web site) on the
download page specifically provided for you so that you can do this process
manually. The reason why the setup program does not include the Dot Net
framework with it, is because not everybody needs it and there is no point
on having people download an extra 25 megs for nothing.

This has nothing to do with the Diet and Exercise Tracker program. From your
post, you didn't even get to use the software because you were not able to
install it. I can tell you for sure that a lot of people installed the
online version without any problem.

I am a little puzzled by this problem because if the setup programs needs to
download the Dot Net Framework and you don't have Internet access because
your cable is unplugged, you will receive a message box indicating that the
program could not connect to the Internet and it will give you the option to
easily click the Cancel button to terminate the installation without any
problem. If you however, unplugged the cable while the computer was on, this
will confuse the installation program and appear to be locked up, if this is
the case, give the setup some time to snap out of it and resist using the
task-manager. If you unplugged the cable *while* the downloading of the Dot
Net version was going on then you may have to use the task manager to kill
the program or simply reboot the computer. This is not a bug from the
DietAndExerciseTracker software, this is a problem with the application we
use to package our software for distribution. I will report this problem to
them so they can fix it.

Thanks.
