Hello everyone,
I've been searching all over for answers - found information either too
much or too dated. What I am looking for are voices of *experience*. I
figured what greater experience than from members of the
fitness.walking group! I hope you'll be kind enough to share your
thoughts/experiences. Many thanks ahead of time.
My husband & I will be visiting Vietnam for 3 weeks. Since we will be
walking most of the time, we would like to find comfortable shoes for
the trip... and, if possible, waterproof. There are so many varieties
nowadays: tennis shoes, walking shoes, hiking shoes, climbing shoes,
etc. Turns the brain upside-down! Seems every store I ask... they all
have their personal favourite. Can you suggest what might be good for
men's and women's shoes - the 3-week walking tour variety?
Again, thanks much for your thoughts! Happy New Year.

Be *very* sure they fit well, with the sox you intend to wear. And wear them
in well before you go. If necessary, you can add or replace the insoles to
get a more custom/comfortable fit (& you can take extras of those with you.
And use *good sox*.
Personally, for waterproof I like Timberland. They come in a lot of
different styles. But if I were going to wear mine (light hiking type) all
day every day I might add a bit more arch support with a light insole.
You might also consider taking at least two pairs, so you can switch them
out, let them breath, let them dry, etc. as necessary.
Have a good trip.

Make sure you get walking shoes. The difference can be fairly important as I
found out not to long ago. This is especially true if you have not walked a
lot in the past.
I'm a huge New Balance fan. I typically put about 1000 miles on them before
buying new ones.
The old ones just get used for every day things and are still good for a
long time.
Water proof might be nice but unless they are boots chances are any puddles
will just fill them up.
A couple people on uk.rec.walking just reccomended sandals for such
activity.
It is an excellent site for questions like yours.
Make sure you get them early and walk in them a lot. >> Stay informed about: Comfortable Walking Shoes Recommendations Needed, Please |

Hello Elisabeth! I just wanted to let you know about a great shoe
called the MBT. This is not only an excellent shoe for walking, it
also has tons of other added benefits like increased circulation,
better posture and stronger core muscles.
I got my shoes at a store in Boca Raton, Fl. (FeetFirstFitness) about 6
months ago and I rarely ever take them off...
Hope this information helps. Have a wonderful trip!!! >> Stay informed about: Comfortable Walking Shoes Recommendations Needed, Please |

At $245.00 a pair which includes "... an instructional DVD and pamphlet with
instructions and exercises. " it sounds a bit suspect to me.
"don't just stand there, do something.whether you're standing in line at the
café or talking with your friend, you are nearly always toning your body
when you're wearing MBTs"
"Because MBTs continuously work your muscles and activate neglected ones,
you'll find your body changing for the better."
Which sounds like you're wearing something hard to stand on and can never
take a break.
