Let's see...100 grams of blood sausage has 378 calories, so, multiply by the
Universal Sausage:Blood Ratio Factor, carry the 7, round up...the answer
is..."some" ($1 to Tom Morley)

a little bit of an extreme.

No, I don't know the calorie content of urine, feces, sweat, dead skin
cells, or any other bodily fluids that you "lose", so, don't ask

This is a lovely example of having a metric that is so wrong that it
causes you to maximize the wrong thing. By keying on 'weight' instead
of 'fat' you find some benefit in blood letting that just isn't there.

Yes, your body is going to have to spend a few calories replacing your
lost blood cells. You're allowed to give blood every couple months or
so... and required to eat a bag of stale cookies and drink corn-syrup
juice afterwards, right? I don't see a net fat loss anywhere in this
scenario.

But go ahead and give blood for other reasons. I wish I could. I spend
12 hours in Mexico last April and I'm not allowed to give blood until
it's been a year since I was in a foreign country. I hate how
incredibly reactionary the blood bank people are.

I didn't post the question anywhere, but I did try a Google search on
some vampire sites. One result gave me this quotation: "Blood is
extremely fattening- a litre can provide approximately a thousand
calories of high-fat, high-protein nutrition." That's from here:

But that's not including the protein or fat, right? So the calories
from glucose would be a pretty tiny percentage of the total number of
calories in the blood.

Most of the usable Calories (1 food Calorie [with capital "C"] = 1000
calories [small "c"]) carried in blood are in glucose since glucose is the
main energy source of the body.
Most of the proteins in your blood are in your blood cells - so they are not
available for energy.
To include the fats, you have to know your lipid profile and what fraction
of the fats can be used for food instead of clogging arteries

Many times in mfw history, it's been necessary to distinguish between
"body fat" and "dietary fat." I think this is the first time we've
needed to distinguish between "body blood" and "dietary blood." The
original poster pointed out that "My calorie-counter doesn't list this
as a food category," so I was sort of working from that.

But on a more serious note, Al, your information helps answer some
questions I've been wondering about, so I appreciate that.
