"Curt" <Anyway, I wonder what the deal was with her accent? Did the folks at
Folger's think she had the sound of an Old World expert? Consumers would
flock to Folger's because of the sound of her voice?>>
I think back in the 1950s the Swedish types had gotten popular for being
smart about food and good housekeeping. If you watch the old westerns, it
seemed like there was a good Swedish guy and/or his wife in every movie.
They seemed to always be in charge of the parties and restaurants.
Bonanza TV series also had the Swedish angle, as Hoss was the son of a
Swedish mother, and there were a few episodes that went into that. I recall
there used to a be a chain of Swedish restaurants, but I don't recall the
name, or if they were national or just regional.

I don't know much about coffee, except that I like it strong. Sometime
around the 1970s the coffee bean culture shifted to Juan Valdes and the
Columbians. Even though they have often tried to do commercials with the
wetback next to his mule, I don't think they are as popular as Mrs. Olsen
and the other old hag.
