Yeah, I know. My wife is constantly amazed at that. He not only likes it, he
demands it (typical cat behavior). He then purrs to the point that he drools
(poor guy was abused before he came to us, and is missing one of his bottom
incisors), all the while looking around with that superior cat expression
which indicates that he feels he deserves this and so much more.

Oh my!
We had 3 of those at one point... 2 are still alive.
Mom would sit and try to brush her hair and Dolly, Jasper and Horus
would all try to butt their way under the brush.
They love it.
The trick is to make it a pleasant experience.
I do, however, have a persian that desparately needs regular brushing
and she's not having any of it. I got her as an adult so I can only feel
that somebody made it a horrible experience for her.
I just have her Lion Cut twice per year instead. I'll let the groomer
deal with her temper. <G>
Lion cut:
http://www.thecatgallery.com/himalayan_cat_models_page_8.html
Diana usually comes home looking like the pissed off cat, but she does
not really seem to mind the cut, just the fact that she got shaved and
BATHED...

I'm not sure if all Maincoons are the same but a friend has one of those
cats and it is at least twice as large as the next next biggest cat I
have ever seen. He's not fat at all but he is just huge, big feet, big
head and a very deep meow. He's more the size of a bobcat than a
domestic cat. He's the only one I have seen so maybe he just got hit by
a radioactive cloud or something.

No, the breed runs large.
My Maincoon is not HUGE, just an average big cat--not fat, but big. He may
not be a pure Maincoon, but he has perfect raccoon markings

OK, now you got me curious.

Our Maine Coon isn't nearly that big ... but he is half again as big
as our Russian Blues:
http://www.rustyiron.net/maxx01.jpg
He really isn't that interested in "people food." Mostly, he just
gobbles down the Iams kibble. If he wants some meat, he simply goes
and kills it. He does that a lot. >> Stay informed about: Bowflex Owners Keep Dogs Imprisoned |

He certainly looks capable of killing his own food. The tail on that guy is
big enough to club little vermin to death.
I assume that these guys have mellow personalities? That they are good
around kids, etc?
I can not imagine owning a big cat like this if it had an aggressive
personality. >> Stay informed about: Bowflex Owners Keep Dogs Imprisoned |

Maxx likes people. He's not very fond of the new dog, though. The
Russian Blues have learned that Duke will lose interest in them if
they don't react. Maxx still runs, which is exactly what Duke wants. >> Stay informed about: Bowflex Owners Keep Dogs Imprisoned |

I emailed my friend for pics of her Maincoon but she is away right now.
Maybe she will ahve one when she gets back but I found a few pics of
a really big Maincoon. I think her cat is pretty close to the same size
as this one. The one in the pictures is 48" nose to tail and healthy at
35 lbs.
I'm telling you these are BF cats.

Damn!! Now that is a big kitty. Bigger than a lot of dogs. I assume that
they have a mellow personality. A mean, aggressive kitty of that size would
be a danger to man or beast alike.
I love the pictures of the cat standing up to the porch railing. And the one
where they have a dog harness on it.
I am wondering how much you have to feed it or the size of the deposits he
makes in the litter box (or even the size of the litter box). He is a big
fella!!
Thanks for the pictures Stephen. >> Stay informed about: Bowflex Owners Keep Dogs Imprisoned |

My friend's Maincoon is pretty nice to people but he's not that nice to
other animals. He actually doesn't fight much because no cat wants to
tangle with him. Not many dogs or coyotes either but he's got a few
wicked scars from something.
He looks a lot like John's 'Coon but bigger. It's kind of unnerving
when he leans up against your leg and purrs. Kind of like pressing your
leg against a running Harley. Like I say, I am allergic to cats and
I'll be damned if this one doesn't like me too. I can't shoo him away
because he likes to lean into anything that presses against him.
Funny thing, he doesn't seem to bother my allergies as much as other
cats. Why do cats seem so attracted to anyone who is allergic to them?

I will try to get some up when I get home today.
Now when I say raccoon marking, I am not talking about his face, I mean if
you saw him scurry past (tail and body) you would swear he was a raccoon.
The only way to notice the difference (at a glance) is that raccoons have
very short front legs.
