Read in Men's Health that it is bad to refill and reuse your water bottle
because this proliferates germs.

The article went on to say that washing doesn't help because the narrow neck
doesn't get much in from the dishwasher and they also pooh pouched hand
washing.

I wonder if keeping the bottle in the freezer (between uses) would be
beneficial in killing the microscopic baddies?

Any thots?

TIA

Ohfercryingoutloud! Chicken Little lives!

Anyway, get a bicycle bottle with "spout" -- I hope you know
what I mean. There is no chance of backwash, hence no chance
of germs to grow. In fact, you should not even touch the
"spout" with your mouth.

Also, some bottled water comes with a "spout". You can reuse
the "spout" on bottles with compatible threads.

Freezer!? I keep my bottle full of water in the refrigerator
-- but not because any paranoia about germs.

Anyway, I don't think cold kills germs; heat does. Talk to
anyone with a newborn baby. And believe me, you don't want
to go there.

Do what the bikies do - periodically fill it with diluted bleach, let it
sit a bit, then rinse it out well. That's good enough for many; if the
bleach aftertaste bothers you, another soak with baking soda mixed into
some water gets rid of the bleach smell.

Tried and true, and I don't think much live through bleach - some folks
use straight chlorine bleach but it's not necessary - a few spoonfulls
in a bottle of water is enough.

Another approach, if you drink bottled water or sports drinks at all, is
to reuse a bottle from one of those for as long as you're comfortable
then discard it and buy another. Buying a new bottle of water once a
week wouldn't be bad this way.

If you're worried, a rinse with just a drop of clorine in the water
will kill all the bugs.

Why not just put in boiling water in a saucepan once in a while.
