My gym doesn't have any fat bars (about a 2" grip) and I'd like to
make a slip-on set of grips for the bars I'm forced to work with,
including the rack, dumbbells, etc.
Does anyone sell slip-on grips already made? I'm thinking of a piece
of hollow tubing of some very dense foam or hard rubber, with a
lengthwise slit to allow it to be put on and removed.
Any ideas?

Why do you want this? Do you expect the grips
to rotate or stay fixed? They will most likely rotate.
Is this about strengthening your grip?
APT Pro Wrist Straps makes wrist wraps with
hooks that would make your grip larger.

If you don't like the fact that these are attached to wrist
straps,
you could make a couple of 'U' shaped metal hooks that fit over
the bar. Maybe 4 inches wide. Hook the U over the bar and
then wrap your hand around it.

Ask here:
http://b4.ezboard.com/btheironworks
or here:
http://forum.dragondoor.com?kbid=1022
I've seen message in both places talking about this sort of thing,
especially the first one, a board run by former mfw regular Bryce Lane.
I think you're thinking about it in the right way, but I'm not sure how
easy it will be to make something removable. You might do better just
bringing in thick-handled dumbbells and living without it for the bar.
Here's a link for some 2" dumbbells:
http://www.brutestrength.com/store/cart.php?target=product&product_id=...50&cate
$35 and that includes shipping.
Hope the links are of some help.

One common source of bar padding that is dense and comes with a slit already
in it is pipe insulation sold at all home improvement centers. It isusually
grey in color and closed cell. Which means it will break down if you use
them bery much. But they are cheap. I have even seen them layered and taped
together with duct tape. >> Stay informed about: Fat Bar -- how to make grips? |

They sell squat bar pads at sporting goods stores; cut one in half? >> Stay informed about: Fat Bar -- how to make grips? |

Man, what a selection, and of such different types. A big thank you
for this.
